WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. — Lady Tiger basketball turned the ball over 21 times and University of the Cumberlands hit 71 percent from behind the 3-point line to knock off the third-ranked Lady Tigers on Saturday afternoon, 60-56.
Campbellsville (22-5, 9-3 MSC) finished hitting 44 percent from the floor, but the Patriots one-upped them and sank 54 percent of their shots. Lindsey Burd led Campbellsville with 26 points and seven rebounds, while LaTeesha DeLoach scored 18 points and hit three 3-point baskets to lead the Patriots.
The Patriots took their largest lead of 11 points with 4:26 left in the third quarter. But Campbellsville rallied with a 17-9 run in the next eight minutes to tie the game at 51 with 3:14 left. The tie was the first time CU had either tied or led since they were ahead 16-15 with 36 seconds left in the first quarter.
Cumberlands (10-12, 2-9 MSC) was ahead for over 33 minutes in the contest, as the Patriots held a margin from that 36-second mark in the first quarter to the 1:23 mark in the fourth.
Burd sank two free throws with 83 seconds to play to give CU a 54-53 lead, but UC finished the game on a 7-2 run to seal the upset.
The Lady Tigers hit only 2-of-6 from behind the 3-point line — the lowest makes and attempts all season. Emily Fox hit the only triples for CU, making 2-of-4 and finishing with 10 points. Lexxus Graham had the other two attempts but missed both.
Campbellsville, who played only seven players, had only six of them score. In addition to Burd and Fox, LeeAnn Grider and Kristen Jacob finished with seven points, Lauren Turner scored four and Abby Miller pitched in two.
The Patriots played all eight players on their bench. Behind DeLoach's team-leading 18 points, Sarah Kelton finished with 10 to round out Cumberlands in double figures.
Campbellsville will now host its final two regular season games on Thursday, Feb. 18 and Saturday, Feb. 20. The Lady Tigers host Lindsey Wilson College at 6 p.m. ET on Thursday and Cumberland University on Saturday at 2 p.m. Both games will be live on the CU Sports Network.
