Ron Scott missed a 3 with time expiring, as the Tigers fall on the road, 80-78.
No. 19 Campbellsville (18-7, 5-6 MSC) could not slow down Jones and company, as he finished just shy of a triple-double, hitting 11-of-19 from the floor for a game-high 25 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists. Chris Johnson followed suit with 18 points and four assists, as the duo combined to hit six 3-point baskets.
St. Catharine (7-17, 3-8 MSC) had success shooting the ball all day, hitting 55 percent (33-of-60) overall and 48 percent from the tre' (11-of-23). Campbellsville finished hitting 43 percent from the floor and 33 percent from 3-point land.
The Tigers were led by Sekou Harris' 17 points, while Dii'jon Allen-Jordan finished with 16, Ron Scott had 13 and Elliott Young scored 12.
Campbellsville went into halftime trailing 45-38 but coming out of the break, St. Catharine's big man got into foul trouble. After a personal foul and technical foul on Emory Bennett within five seconds of each other, he had to go to the bench and the Tigers rallied.
Trailing by nine, 54-45 with 16:04 left, Sekou Harris hit both technical free throws and Ron Scott made the foul shots to kick-start a big CU run.
Harris made consecutive 3s and Allen-Jordan scored to give the Tigers their first lead, 55-54, since the 17:03 mark in the first half. Rob Robinson and Elliott Young then sunk consecutive 3s to push the CU lead to five, 63-58, with 10:56 left. Robinson scored all nine points from behind the 3-point line and finished with nine.
St. Catharine would go on a 12-5 run and regain the lead, 70-68, just before the final media timeout at 5:13.
The game saw two more ties and three lead changes till the final horn. Jones made a 15-footer with 1:06 left but Allen-Jordan answered 20 seconds later with a layup, putting Campbellsville back ahead, 78-77.
St. Catharine called a timeout to set a play, then Jones responded with a 3 as the shot clock was expiring for the final basket. Campbellsville had a chance late but Scott's contested 3 with time expiring fell off the front of the rim, securing the Patriot upset.
Campbellsville remains on the road for two more matchups next week. The Tigers travel to No. 3 University of Pikeville on Thursday with the game scheduled for 8 p.m. ET. CU will then face University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg, Ky. on Saturday at 4 p.m.
