Scott delivers in rain-shortened DH at KCU

GRAYSON, Ky. — Brianna Scott delivered a three-run double in the top of the seventh in the first game of a rain-shortened doubleheader at Kentucky Christian today and propelled the Lady Tigers to a 4-1 win.

After the 4-1 win, game two was rained out after playing three-plus innings.

GAME 1: Campbellsville 4, Kentucky Christian 1

Prior to the seventh inning, Campbellsville (5-4) was mired in a hitting slump. But it used a single by Rebecca Miller and a double by Scott in the frame to deliver a 4-1 win.

Katelyn Miller (2-2), who needed relief in the seventh after working a five-hitter with nine strikeouts through six frames, suffered the loss. Her relief, Jenna Edwards, was touched for only one hit, but she walked two and hit a batter.

Victoria Decker (2-3), who allowed only four hits but faced a 1-0 deficit into the top of the seventh, was the winner. Decker allowed a solo run in the third when a two-out single by Jenna Edwards accounted for what appeared to be the game winner for the Knights.

But in the top of the seventh, Rachel Denkins, pinch hitting for Destiney Taul, drew a walk and was sacrificed to second by Shelby Ray. That's when Miller delivered the game-tying hit (her fourth of the game). Jacqueline Roof, playing for the first time this season, was hit by a pitch. Hailey Szpila walked, setting up Scott's three-run double down the leftfield line.

Ray and Adrean Jordan also had hits in the game.

Campbellsville stranded nine base runners in the game.

GAME 2: Rained out

Campbellsville was leading 5-1 in the top of the third when the second game of the doubleheader was called because of rain that moved into eastern Kentucky.

Jacqueline Roof scored in the first inning on Rebecca Miller's 5-3 out.

After Kentucky Christian (5-3) tied the score 1-1 in the bottom of the first on Cassandra Adkins' single, the Lady Tigers brought seven batters to the plate in a four-run third highlighted by Adrean Jordan's two-run double.

Roof had a single and Rebecca Miller was safe on a squeeze play that scored Roof.

Neely Quint (3-1) had given up three hits, walked one and struck out two in two innings of work before the game was called.

However, none of the Game 2 stats will count.

The Lady Tigers will play in the Gulf Coast Invitational, Gulf Shores, Ala., March 4-6.
