BARBOURVILLE, Ky. — Nestor Linares hit a seventh inning two run homer and finished the day with three hits to lead Campbellsville past Union College, 3-0.
The Tigers (13-7, 1-2 MSC) scattered nine hits with Miguel Solano joining Linares with multiple base knocks (2-for-4).
Union College (11-13) was only able to come up with five hits against starter Irvin Ruiz (2-0) closer Jake Pannunzio. Ruiz picked up his second win in as many mid-week starts, throwing seven innings of three-hit baseball. Pannunzio earned his Mid-South Conference-leading eighth save with a two-inning appearance.
In the first six innings, Campbellsville could only muster three hits but CU started to rally in the seventh. After a leadoff walk to Riley Joyce, Linares delivered the big blow – his first career Tiger home run.
CU added on it the eighth bringing five batters to the plate, scrapping two more hits and scoring a run. Richard Ramirez started the rally with a double to deep right field and was followed with a single by Mike Castellano moving pinch runner Nelson Quark to third.
Reliever Trae Moseley allowed Quark to score an insurance run with a wild pitch putting Campbellsville ahead, 3-0.
Pannunzio entered in the bottom of the eighth and allowed a one-out single but Zach Gross grounded into a 1-6-3 double play to end the Union threat.
CU had another prime opportunity to play add-on in the ninth. Cameron Ketchen singled and moved to third on a double by Cody Erickson but Casey Scott and Nick Morehead both grounded out.
In the bottom half of the ninth, Pannunzio allowed a single but struck out two for his eighth save.
Campbellsville will now travel to Frankfort, Ky. for a matchup with Kentucky State University at 2 p.m. ET.
