No. 8 Softball earns a split with No. Lindsey Wilson

COLUMBIA, Ky. — Campbellsville used a 13-hit first game, but could no hold a late game-two lead and split today, 12-3 and 2-1, against Lindsey Wilson.


The Lady Tigers (16-7, 1-1 MSC) were on a five-game win streak until today's flameout in game two.

GAME 1: Campbellsville 12, Lindsey Wilson 3

Victoria Decker (8-4) threw a five-inning five-hitter and Campbellsville used a ton of hits to put LWC away early.

Decker has gone 8-1 after a 0-3 start this season. She fanned five Blue Raiders and walked one.

The Lady Tigers chased Lindsey starter Casey Bryan in the third after Bryan had given up her eighth hit. Emily Gray pitched the remainder of the game and allowed five hits, walking one and striking out two.

Jacqueline Roof went 3-for4 and plated five runs and three other CU batters had multiple-hit games. Shelby Ray was 2-for-3 (2 RBIs), Markie Smith 2-for-2 (RBI) and Destiney Taul 2-for-3 (RBI) to lead the 13-hit attack. Madison Mudd collected a double in the game.

Roof doubles to lead off the game and after a Ray single she scored on Hailey Szpila's single to center.

CU tacked on three more runs in the top of the second when Roof crushed a homer with Smith and Taul aboard.

Leading 4-0, Campbellsville batted around in a seven-run third, taking a 10-0 lead. The Lady Tigers loaded the bases with no outs and used run-scoring hits by Roof, Ray and a two-run homer run by Brianna Scott.

Smith hit a solo home run in the fourth.

Lindsey Wilson scored two runs in the third and another in the fifth, but could not score enough to extend the game into the sixth frame.

GAME 2: Lindsey Wilson 2, Campbellsville 1

Neely Quint (8-3) committed a throwing error in the seventh that allowed Lindsey Wilson  (18-8, 1-1 MSC) and extra out and it came back to haunt the Lady Tigers. Until the bottom of the seventh Quint had a three-hitter going when, with two outs, Amber Fouker and Callum Pilgrim singled with two outs and Abbi Goedde aboard.

Sydney Fourman had tied the game in the bottom of the sixth with a solo home run.

Quint allowed six hits and walked a batter. Her counterpart, Lyndsey Parden, pitched a six hitter, but fanned 11 Lady Tigers.

Campbellsville got on the board in the second inning when Madison Mudd singled, scoring Adrean Jordan.

Campbellsville travels to Lindsey Wilson Saturday, March 19 for another Mid-South Conference doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 ET.
