Cold shooting plagues Lady Tigers in NAIA quarterfinals

INDEPENDECNE, MO. — Defense played a major role in the quarterfinal matchup as Benedictine held the Lady Tigers to their lowest point total in over 10 years, winning 45-36.

The last time Campbellsville was held to such a low-scoring margin, was in 2005 when University of Montana-Western defeated the Lady Tigers 83-33.

In a game that felt like a home game atmosphere for Benedictine, the Lady Tigers only converted on one 3-point baskets — the lowest shooting percentage this season - .059 percent (1-of-17).

CU forced 21 turnovers and stole the ball 12 times to produce 13 points, but it just wasn't enough. At the 3:57 mark of the second quarter, junior point guard, LeeAnn Grider went down with a game-ending knee injury.

Going into halftime CU was down by 10 points, 27-17 while the Ravens were shooting above 40 percent from the field.

Campbellsville started the second half with energy as Lindsey Burd begun a 15-5 run within the first 30 seconds of action. Fellow senior, Kristen Jacob, followed suit grabbing an offensive rebound and putting it up for two points. A free throw by Lexxus Graham put the Lady Tigers within two points, 32-30.

The fourth quarter saw field goal droughts from both teams as the final minute saw more scoring than the other nine. Burd hit a two-point shot at 9:26 with the next point coming at 6:48 from Benedictine's Kristen Murphy's free throw. Two baskets were traded between the two teams then the Ravens crowd erupted at the 1:14 mark as Jordan Kramer broke the ice.

Kramer would go on to nail 4-of-4 free throws in the final seconds to seal the game.

Lindsey Burd led the Lady Tigers with 16 points, seven rebounds and three assists, shooting 7-of-18 from the field. Emily Fox added 11 points going 4-of-20 form the field and 1-of-12 from behind the arc. Abby Miller and Kristen Jacob might not have racked up in the scoring column but collected seven and five rebounds, respectively.

The Raven's Kristen Murphy recorded a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds — going 5-of-10 from the field and 2-of-3 from the 3-point line. Kramer added 16 points and five rebounds.
