MT. JULIET, Tenn. — Improving four strokes in Round 2, Campbellsville men's golf finished in seventh place at the Cumberland Phoenix Invitational.
Results
The Tigers shot 314-310 for the two rounds finishing with a team score of 624 (+56). Host Cumberland University fired 286-284 for a total of 570 (+2) to win their second-consecutive Phoenix Invitational.
Cumberland University's Ryan Botts fired 69-72 to finish tied with teammate Zach Keen and Trevecca Nazarene's Payton Williams. But it took three playoff holes to decide a winner, as Botts recorded a par to outlast Williams and Keen for medalist honors.
Senior Wade Cave led the Tigers, shooting 77-76 (153, +11) to finish in a tie for 19th place. James Higgins followed suit and improved his first round 81 with a 73 in the second round to finish tied for 21st. Jared Fannin fell off the pace after a 75 in round one, shooting an 80 in round two to place 26th (155, +13)
Tyler Harrod shot identical 81's to place in 40th (162, +20) and Justin Hazel dropped off the pace in round two, firing 82-87 (170, +28)
Followed the Phoenix's team win, Trevecca went from fourth to second with team scores of 310-284 (585, +17). SCAD Savannah placed third, 298-302 (600, +32); Bryan College, 305-299 (604 +36); Milligan College, 294-315 (609, +41); St. Catharine College, 313-309 (622, +54); Campbellsville, 314-310 (624, +56); St. Francis, 320-309 (629, +61), Asbury University, 322, 325 (647, +79); Fisk University, 335-334 (669, +101).
Tiger golf will now have two weeks to prepare for the Mid-South Conference Spring Tournament hosted at Campbellsville Country Club on April 4-5.
