CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — The Lady Tigers got a perfect game from Victoria Decker and CU's bats remained hot as Shawnee State was swept for the second straight day, 10-0, 11-3, at Veterans Memorial Park.
The wins push Campbellsville's record to 24-7, 9-1 MSC and give the Lady Tigers outright first place in the conference after Georgetown's loss today to St. Catharine.
GAME 1: Campbellsville 10, Shawnee State 0Â
Victoria Decker (12-4) had a perfect day in the circle, sitting down all 15 Bear batters she faced in the five-inning game. She struck out six.
CU had three home runs in the game, the big blow coming in second when Hailey Szpila cleared the right field fence with Brianna Scott and Adrean Jordan aboard.
Morgan Gailor and Jacqueline Roof had back-to-back solo shots in the third.
Additionally, Scott had two singles, and Markie Smith, Shelby Ray and Jordan each had one. Gailor also added a single for CU's 10 hits.
GAME 2: Campbellsville 11, Shawnee State 3Â
Neely Quint (12-3) fell behind 2-0 in the top of the first when she allowed a single to Miranda Melvin and her teammates seemingly forgot how to throw and catch.
The Lady Tigers committed three errors in the inning, but settled down after scoring four times in the bottom half of the inning.
After Jacqueline Roof walked and Shelby Ray was safe on a bunt, Shawnee State extended the inning with an error at third. The Bears committed five errors, but the one in the first was a big mistake because the next batter up, Markie Smith, unloaded with a three-run home run.
Ray was a home run shy of hitting for the cycle. She hit a long fly ball in the fourth that caught the top of the fence and caromed back into the field of play. Ray finished 4-for-4 with two singles to go along with her double and triple. Roof had a solo homer in the fourth.
Katelyn Merritt had a single, as did Smith and Szpila.
Campbellsville will be back at Veterans Memorial Park Tuesday, March 29 against Cumberland University with a 2 p.m. first pitch for the MSC doubleheader.
