CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — Campbellsville manufactured a lot of its offense from 16 hits, 11 hit batsmen and six walks, sweeping Cumberland University today at Veterans Memorial Park, 9-3 and 11-6. The wins extend the Lady Tigers' win streak to 10 games.
Campbellsville (26-7, 11-1 MSC) delivered a lot of damage off the bats of Brianna Scott and Adrean Jordan, who accounted for seven of the 19 RBIs with a double and home run, respectively.
GAME 1: Campbellsville 9, Cumberland 3Â
Victoria Decker (13-4) righted herself after a rocky start, shutting the Phoenix down on seven hits while striking out seven.
The Lady Tigers fell behind 2-0 in the first after Cumberland used a couple of errors, a hit batsman and a run-scoring single by Kassydi Montgomery. Decker, who had given up only four hits in her last five outings, worked around her seven-hitter while walking two.
Campbellsville got one back in the bottom of the first without the benefit of a hit. Then in the second, the Lady Tigers loaded the bases with one out. Jacqueline Roof delivered a run when she was hit by a pitch and then Brianna Scott, who has hit safely in 11 of her last 12 games, plated three runs on her seventh double of the season.
Decker shut the Phoenix down for five straight innings until the top of the seventh when she gave up three singles and the final run of the game.
Morgan Gailor, pinch-hitting for Destiney Taul, knocked in two runs with a double in the fifth and Shelby Ray's sacrifice fly scored the eighth run.
Brittany Rippy's doubled scored Markie Smith in the bottom of the sixth to close out CU's scoring.
Â
In all, eight Lady Tigers picked up hits in the game.
GAME 2: Campbellsville 11, Cumberland 6Â
Neely Quint (13-3) pitched a six-hitter, but five Campbellsville errors made the game interesting, at least for Cumberland (9-19, 5-7 MSC). Victoria Decker pitched the last inning, setting down the three batters she faced.
The Lady Tigers trailed 1-0 after a half inning of play and the score was tied 3-3 after three. But a six-run fourth put the game away.
Brittany Rippy scored on Jacqueline Roof's single to begin the sixth-inning scoring but Roof advanced all the way to third after a two-base error by Cumberland. Roof then scored when Shelby Ray pulled off a successful squeeze bunt. Then, with the bases loaded, Adrean Jordan parked her third homer of the year — a grand slam.
Jocelyn Gonzalez hit a three-run home run in the fifth to bring Cumberland within a 10-6 deficit but the was as close as the Phoenix would get. Hailey Szpila scored in the bottom of the sixth on a two-out dropped fly ball.
Â
Roof and Ripy each had two hits and Madison Mudd's second home run of the season in the second inning produced two runs.
Campbellsville goes on the road Friday, April 1 when the Lady Tigers meet Pikeville in a 3 p.m. Mid-South Conference doubleheader.
