PRESTONSBURG, Ky. —
Robert Johnson and
James Higgins finished in the Top 6 of the University of Pikeville Spring Invitational to lead Tiger golf to a runner-up finish at StoneCrest Golf Club.
Johnson, a junior from Ontario, Canada, carded 75-77 to finish +9 for the tournament, while Higgins fired 79-74 to place sixth and finish at +9. The two-over 74 was the low round for CU in the second round.
Jared Fannin improved after an opening round 82 to shoot a four-over 76 today and finish tied for 12
th place.
Tristan Blevins matched his teammate with identical 79s to tie for 12
th.
Justin Riffle was consistent in his two rounds, firing matching 80s and finishing in 17
th place.
The Tigers had three individuals competing as well.
Tyler Harrod went 82-82 to place 18
th, while
Cody Goodwin and
Corey Boils both improved on their first round scores. Goodwin shot 83-82, while Boils improved 13 strokes, firing 91-78 to jump into 24
th place.
Johnson was the lone Tiger to pick up All-Tournament honors.
Pikeville (606) took home the team title by 13 strokes over CU (619).
The Tigers will now have one week to prepare for the Mid-South Conference championship hosted at Bowling Green County Club. Tee times will be announced on Saturday, April 16 with the first of three rounds starting on April 18. Live scoring will be available via GolfStat.
