Scott's homers rally Lady Tigers past St. Catharine

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — Campbellsville didn't give its best defensive effort today, committing nine errors, but Rebecca Miller and Brianna Scott made up for it at the plate, as the Lady Tigers rallied to sweep St. Catharine, 4-1, 9-4, at Veterans Memorial Park.

Miller, returning after a 16-game absence due to injury, went 3-for-4 with three RBIs, turning game one with her two-run bloop single that landed in the grass just past second base.

But it was Scott who produced the most drama, knocking in seven runs with two homers in game two after Campbellsville (32-7, 17-1 MSC) trailed 4-1 into the fifth inning.

GAME 1: Campbellsville 4, St. Catharine 1

Only six hits were recorded between the two teams, but CU got four runs from its three hits and St. Catharine only one.

The fireworks erupted in the bottom of the third when Brianna Scott doubled home Jacqueline Roof. Then, after a two-out walk to Hailey Szpila, and Markie Smith reached when she was hit by a pitch, Rebecca Miller delivered the third hit of the inning. Smith eventually scored on Kelsey Graves' error.

Victoria Decker (17-4) pitched a three-hitter, walking one and striking out four.

The Patriots (18-24, 4-14 MSC) scored their run in the fifth, helped by two of CU's four errors.

GAME 2: Campbellsville 9, St. Catharine 4

Morgan Gailor picked up her first career win with 1 2/3 innings in relief of Neely Quint. Gailor allowed two hits, but loaded the bases in the top of the seventh, giving way to Victoria Decker. Decker set down in order the three batters she faced.

Campbellsville scored a run in the first inning when Rebecca Miller singled home Brianna Scott.

But that lead only lasted three innings as SCC would score two in the fourth and two in the fifth to take a 4-1 lead.

In the bottom of the fifth, CU loaded the bases with no outs. That's when Scott unloaded her first career grand slam. To add insult to injury, Scott followed that, an inning later, with a three-run shot to left.

Scott was 4-for-7 for the day with eight RBI. Miller and Jacqueline Roof both had two hits.

Campbellsville is scheduled to host University of Rio Grande Wednesday, April 6 in a non-conference doubleheader at Veterans Memorial Park, starting at 2:00. Fans can follow the game live on the CU Sports Network - http://portal.stretchinternet.com/camp/
