Scantland, Lady Tigers lead UPIKE Spring Invitational

PRESTONSBURG, Ky. — Coming off her 10th career victory earlier this week, Cassidy Scantland is looking to gain even more momentum for the upcoming Mid-South Conference championship. Scantland leads the 49-player field at the University of Pikeville Spring Invitational, while the 21st-ranked Lady Tigers sit in first place as well.

Scantland, a junior from Greensburg, Ky., carded a three-over 75 in the first round, while three other fellow juniors also sit in the Top 6. Anna-Marie Hyatt is tied for second with a seven-over 79, Olivia Parrott is fifth with an opening round 80 and Ashley Goodin in sixth with a first-round 81.

Freshman Kylie Withrow is inside the Top 10 with an opening round 86. Playing as an individual, Michaela Jarman is tied for 16th with an 88.

Scantland led the field with 13 pars in her first round, while also rolling in a birdie. Hyatt led the field with three birdies and was able to play the par fives in two-under. Right behind her was Parrott with two birdies in her round. Scantland joined Hyatt playing the par fives at -1, while Goodin was even on the par fives.

Campbellsville shot an opening round 315 (+27) to sit in first with a comfortable lead over host Pikeville (331, +43). Thomas More College is third (351), Georgetown College is fourth (366), Spalding University is fifth (370), University of Virginia at Wise is sixth (373), Transylvania is seventh (421), Concord University is eighth (449) and Glenville State College is ninth (496).

The second round of the UPIKE Invitational will start tomorrow morning at 11 a.m. ET at StoneCrest Golf Club.
