CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — On a day where coach
Beauford Sanders celebrated his 2016 seniors, Campbellsville put together one of its best performances of the season. The 21st-ranked Tigers scratched three crooked-number innings and
Romello Carbuccia singled home
Jacob Carrera in the seventh to push the Tigers past Shawnee State University, 10-0 in a seven-inning run-rule.
Derek Moore, the 2014 MSC Freshman and Pitcher of the Year for Shawnee State, did not have his best stuff and CU made him pay – especially at the top of its order. The first four hitters in CU's lineup went a combined 10-for-16 with
Nestor Linares and
Cameron Ketchen picking up three hits a piece.
Casey Scott and
Cody Erickson each had two, while Ketchen and
Diego Reynoso both led CU with two RBI.
Overall, the Tigers scattered 16 hits – six doubles - and put together four runs in the second, three in the fifth and two in the sixth before Carbuccia's walk-off.
Nick Przybylek (6-1) pitched 6 2/3 innings of only five hit baseball for the Tigers. He allowed two walks but struck out a career-high nine batters in his 105 pitch performance.
Justin Phillips came in after a two-out single by Shawnee State's Matt Dvorscak in the sixth inning. He allowed Zachariah Freeman to pick up his second hit before striking out Andrew Vanthournout to end the Bears threats.
The Tigers and Bears meet tomorrow with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. ET. Fans can listen to both games of the doubleheader on the Campbellsville University Sports Network – 88.7 The Tiger (wlcufm.com) – with coverage starting at 12:45.
The runs came in bunches in the second. With a runner on first,
Richard Ramirez picked up a one-out single and was followed with a two RBI double by Reynoso to push CU ahead 2-0. But the extra base hits kept coming. After a fly out,
Miguel Solano delivered a double to score Reynoso and then Moore allowed a wild pitch to score the fourth run.
Another rally started with three-straight singles, capped off by Ketchen scoring Linares in the fifth to chase Moore out of the game. Tyler Arthur came in with runners on first and third with zero outs and allowed a two RBI double to
Riley Joyce to blow the game wide open.
Arthur allowed the two runs but picked up three consecutive outs to end the CU threat. He finished throwing two complete innings, allowing six hits and three CU runs. Moore finished the day allowing 10 hits and seven runs in four innings of work.
CU added two more in the sixth - Linares scored on a wild pitch and Ketchen picked up an RBI single.
The seventh inning started with a Shawnee State error which proved costly. CU then loaded the bases to set up the Carbuccia single to deep centerfield.
