Lady Tigers beat Lindsey Wilson 1-0 to win MSC Tournament

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Victoria Decker pitched a seven-hit shutout and No. 4 Campbellsville won its fourth Mid-South Conference Tournament title with a 1-0 win over No. 6 Lindsey Wilson College today at Michael O. Buchanon Park.

The senior from Leitchfield, Ky. worked out of trouble in all but one inning as her teammates came up with timely defensive plays to end scoring threats by the Blue Raiders (43-12). Decker and Neely Quint combined to toss 25 innings in the tournament and only allowed two runs. The Lady Tigers outscored their opponents 26-2 in the four games.

Decker walked one, an intentional pass to Sydney Fourman in the top of the fifth. She then coaxed Bailey Mize to ground out to Jacqueline Roof for an unassisted out at second to the end that threat.

Campbellsville (48-8) got its only score in the bottom of the fourth when Markie Smith's single plated Bianna Scott. The Lady Tigers stranded two runners in the inning but that was all CU and Decker would need.

Campbellsville left five runners stranded altogether and Lindsey Wilson 11.

Shelby Ray led the efficient five-hit attack with a double and a single. Scott, Smith and Madison Mudd recorded the other hits. Smith and Hailey Szpila reached base on walks in the second and fifth innings, respectively.

The Blue Raiders' Lyndsey Parden (23-4) pitched a five-hitter while striking out 11. Brittany Graves had two hits for LWC.

CU won the MSC Tournament three times prior to today (2005, 2006, and 2008). The Lady Tigers have won the regular season and the tournament three times now, also winning and in 2005 and 2006.

Campbellsville will now have to wait to find its destination for the NAIA Opening Round set to begin May 16. The Opening Round selections will be streamed on NAIANetwork.com on May 10 at 7 p.m. ET.
