SIOUX CITY, Iowa — Campbellsville committed three errors in a three-run second inning and Great Falls (26-18) went on to defeat the Lady Tigers in the NAIA Opening Round today, 4-1.
Victoria Decker (27-5) pitched a four-hitter, but fell victim to two walks and the three defensive lapses.
In the decisive second frame, Hali Gruntowicz reached on Brittany Rippy's no-out wild throw to first. Winning pitcher Keeley Van Blaricom singled to left, and Mindy Larson reached base on Jacqueline Roof's misplayed grounder, scoring Gruntowicz. Kylie Prough then reached first on the fielder's choice, and Van Blaricom scored when CU could not run her down between third and home. Jocelyn Kaufman singled to left, scoring Mindy Larson.
The Lady Tigers (48-9) managed only four hits against Van Blaricom (14-8), who struck out two and walked one.
Jacqueline Roof, Rebecca Miller, Brittany Rippy and Brianna Scott collected the four hits. Campbellsville left four runners stranded and lost a runner in the sixth when Scott was caught in a rundown between second and third.
CU picked up its lone run in the sixth after Shelby Ray was issued a leadoff walk and Scott doubled her home.
Campbellsville plays Tuesday, May 17 at 2:30 ET against Grand View University, a 9-6 loser to host Morningside.
