SAVANNAH, Ga. —
Nick Przybylek struck out a career-high 15 batters and allowed only six hits, as Campbellsville advances in the Savannah Elimination Bracket with a 7-2 win over No. 20 Freed-Hardeman.
Top-seeded and No. 16 Campbellsville (37-16) will now play the host and two-seed No. 8 University of South Carolina Beaufort. First pitch is scheduled for tonight at 9:30 ET.
The Tigers pushed across runs in five of the nine innings with single scores coming in the second, third and ninth innings. CU also plated a pair of runs in each of the fourth and eighth innings.
The bottom of the order did most of the damage, with hitters 5-6-7-8 going a combined 12-for-22.
Miguel Solano and
Romello Carbuccia led the charge picking up three hits a piece, while Solano had three RBI and
Richard Ramirez had two. Carbuccia and
Casey Scott drove in the other runs for Campbellsville.
CU played small ball in the early innings to plate its two runs.
Cody Erickson led off the second with a single and moved to second base on a Joyce sac bunt. After a stolen base, Solano squeezed home the games first run.
In the third, Carbuccia started the rally with a single and
Diego Reynoso reached on an error.
Nestor Linares laid down a sac bunt to set up an RBI ground out by Scott.
In the fourth, Joyce picked up a one-out single and Solano singled through the hole at shortstop to put runners on the corners. Ramirez then doubled to deep right-center field to clear the bases and give CU a 4-0 lead.
Freed-Hardeman picked up its first score with a solo home run by Garrett Ferguson – his 15
th of the season. But that was all Przybylek would allow until the ninth. After the homer, he sat down 16-straight batters before allowing a walk with one out in the eighth inning. Freed-Hardeman threatened with another single but Przybylek worked out of the jam with a pair of ground outs.
In the eighth, CU brought eight batters to the plate and scored two two-out runs. Joyce started the rally with a double down the left field line and Solano plated him with a single up the middle. Ramirez followed with a single to left field and Carbuccia drove in his first run with an RBI single to put CU ahead, 6-1.
In the ninth, the Tigers added another with Solano's fourth hit and third RBI.
Przybylek tossed his first complete-game of the season and improved to 9-2.
Freed-Hardeman threw out four pitchers with starter Jack Coleman lasting only six innings. Beau Caviness tossed two innings before giving way to Jared Humphrey and Casey Overturf. The Lions' season ends with a record of 41-19.
