Scantland tees off at 2:20 in NAIA Golf Championship

SAVANNAH, Ga. — Campbellsville's Cassidy Scantland is well rested after having an off-day at the NAIA Women's Golf National Championship. Round three of the tournament continues today with Scantland teeing off at 2:20 p.m. ET at Savannah Qaurters Country Club.

The third round of the NAIA Championship will go off in two waves teeing off of holes one and ten. The top 15 teams will be in the first wave that is set to begin at 8:00 a.m., while the remaining 12 teams and nine individual qualifiers with be in the second wave which tees off at 12:30 p.m.

Scantland, who fired an opening round 11-over 83, had to play through two rain delays and multiple monsoons throughout the first round on Tuesday, May 17. She fell victim to four unlucky holes that cost her 11 strokes and currently sits in a tie for 82nd with 12 other golfers.

With the delays and suspensions of play, the second round was cancelled and today starts Round 3. The national championship is now a 54-hole tournament and no cuts will be made. Another round of showers is expected today around 1:00.

Defending NAIA National Champion Keiser and fifth-ranked University of the Cumberlands both carded a 306 in the first round. The teams finished their first round after play was suspended on Tuesday due to inclement weather.

Last year's individual runner-up, Elsa Westin of Keiser, carded a one-under-par, 71, in the opening round to be atop the individual leaderboard. This is the first time since 2014 that a player shot under par in the first round of the championship. 

Kaitlyn Riley (University of the Cumberlands), Courtney Dye (Indiana Tech), and Sarah Gillards (Coastal Georgia) are tied for second place one stroke back. A trio of golfers are two shots back and shooting a one-over-par, 73, in the first round. 

The Seahawks were the only team to have all four counters shoot 79 or lower in the first round, while Cumberlands' top three players each carded a 76 or lower. Coastal Georgia is in third place two strokes back. Nine teams are within six strokes of the leader heading into the second round of play today.
