Przybylek shines as the Tigers offense comes alive in late inning

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Tiger baseball scratched two runs in the sixth inning and another three in the eighth to upend St. Catharine College 5-0 in the first round of the Mid-South Conference Tournament at Bowling Green Ball Park.

Cameron Ketchen led CU with three hits and started the rally in the sixth with a one-out single. He was followed with consecutive doubles by Cody Erickson and Riley Joyce for the Tigers to take a 2-0 lead.

In the eighth, the Tigers played add on. Ketchen started the rally once again with a double down the left field line and Erickson turned on a 0-2 fastball to hit his fourth home run of the season off the fair pole. Joyce and Miguel Solano followed with singles and Richard Ramirez scored pinch-runner Jacob Carrera with a sac fly to put CU ahead, 5-0.  

Ketchen went 3-for-4 with two singles and a double, while Erickson was 2-for-4 with a double and a home run. Joyce and Romello Carbuccia also had two hits to round out the Tigers 11-hit performance.

Mario Morales started on the mound for CU but went down with back spasms after recording an out in the second inning. Nick Przybylek replaced Morales on the hill and shined in relief. He tossed 6.2 innings and allowed five St. Catharine hits, while striking out six to pick up his eighth win of the season (8-2).

The Tigers finally got to MSC Pitcher of the Year Daniel Lerma (6-4) in the sixth and coach Luther Bramblett went to the bullpen three separate times. Lerman gave up the two runs in the sixth then Austin Willis-Greene allowed three runs in the eighth before Dylan Manley came on to end the Tigers threat. James Davenport also saw action on the mound setting down his three batters he faced in the seventh.

Campbellsville (34-15) will now play the winner of Lindsey Wilson College and Cumberland University tomorrow, Saturday afternoon, at 12:30 p.m. ET. The Blue Raiders and Phoenix were scheduled to play at 6 p.m. ET on Friday evening.

St. Catharine College (34-21) will now play the loser of LWC and Cumberland.
