CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – As the Mid-South Conference Tournament is set to begin tomorrow (Friday), the conference officials released the MSC awards for the regular season. Campbellsville was tied for second, with three All-Conference performers on the first team.
The Lady Tigers that were recognized for the Mid-South Conference first team are Rinata Aisena, Caitlin Dresing and Kelly Moyer.
Aisena leads the Mid-South Conference with 444 kills on the season. She is also tied for first averaging 4.2 kills per set and she ranks third in the conference with a .336 attacking percentage. Aisena also ranks seventh in the NAIA in kills per set and 27th in attacking percentage.
The Riga, Latvia native has been chosen four times as MSC Player of the Week; which is the most by any other conference performer in 2013.
This is Aisena's second straight year being selected to the first team.
Dresing leads CU with 472 digs and that is also good for third in the MSC. She has accumulated 2,143 digs in her career, which is second behind head coach Amy Zink (3,569). She also averages 4.58 digs per set, which is also second behind Zink (6.49).
She was chosen as MSC Honorable Mention in 2009 as she led the Lady Tigers with 746 digs, which put her in second in the MSC behind Mandy Gray of St. Catharine College (915).
This is also Moyer's second straight year being chosen for MSC First Team. She was second on the team with 270 kills and 30 blocks.
Tinley Park, Illinois native Jackie Schwieger was chosen for the MSC Second Team; which is the first post-season award in her career.
Schwieger led CU with 989 assists, which is good for second in the MSC behind Alexa Just from Lindsey Wilson College (1,223). Schwieger also ranks 28th in the nation with 9.99 assists per game. She sits with 2,035 assists in her career and is first in CU program history with 16.26 assists per game.
Campbellsville also had four Lady Tigers chosen for Academic All-Conference. Aisena, Lexis Lloyd, Aleksandra Popovic and Daiane Souza all maintained at least a 3.25 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
Aisena and Souza have both been chosen for two consecutive years and Lloyd has now been chosen every year she has been eligible (freshman aren't eligible). Lloyd was also chosen as NAIA Scholar Athlete in 2012.
"I am proud of all of my players this year," said CU head coach Amy Zink. "Its challenging to balance class and volleyball but they do a great job with everything that comes with being a student athlete."
With the post-season awards' starting to come out, that only means one thing, the MSC Tournament is set to start as well. Campbellsville finished the regular season as the No. 3 seed and will face off against the sixth-seeded University of the Cumberlands. The first game is set to start at 6 p.m. on Friday. All games will be played at the Mid-America Sports Center in Louisville, Ky.
"We have had great practices this week," said Zink. "Great attitudes and high intensity is exactly what we need to make a run in the MSC tournament."
The winner between CU and Cumberlands will play the winner between No. 2 Georgetown and No. 7 Rio Grande in the semifinals on Saturday at Noon ET.
If Campbellsville advances, the finals will start at 5 p.m. ET on Saturday.
