Fighting Tigers look to rebound at Pikeville on Thursday night

PIKEVILLE, Ky. — Tiger football is looking to rebound this week as it travels to University of Pikeville on Thursday night for a Mid-South Conference non-divisional matchup.
 
The 17th-ranked Tigers (0-1) and Bears (1-0) kickoff at 7 p.m. ET at Pikeville's Hambley Athletic Complex. Fans can catch the game on the Campbellsville University Sports Network, 88.7 The Tiger and wlcufm.com, with the Tiger Tailgate Show starting at 6:30 p.m.

SERIES FACTS
 
• Thursday is the 13th meeting between Campbellsville and University of Pikeville. The Fighting Tigers lead the series, 7-5.
• Campbellsville won the first-ever meeting, 43-33, in Pikeville, Ky.
• Campbellsville is 5-1 while playing UPIKE in Pikeville, Ky.
• Coach Perry Thomas is 4-2 against UPIKE.
• In the 2012 meeting, Pikeville won 14-7 at Finley Stadium. It was the season opener for both teams and also the same night the field was dedicated as Citizens Bank Field at Finley Stadium.
• The 14-7 score is the lowest in the 12-game history of the series with the Bears.

• Campbellsville and Pikeville are meeting tonight for the fourth time with the game being played in September. Two games have been played on Sept. 1 (2012)
• UPIKE is playing a ranked team for the 44th time in history but does nor fair well against the NAIA's top teams, bringing in a 6-38 record against ranked opponents.
• UPIKE won its season opener at Bluefield College, 24-20, last Thursday night.
• With the win, the Bears have started the season 1-0 for the fifth-straight year.
• CU's head coach Perry Thomas is 3-5 in second game of the season,
• CU lost its season opener for the fifth-straight year to Cumberlands, 23-17.
• In the season-opener, kicker Bradley Bates hit a career-long 37-yard field goal and made two extra points.
• Freshman Kendon Young showed excitement from the kick return and slot position, finishing with 88 return yards and a touchdown reception.
• The Tigers are coming off their most successful two-year span in 14 years, winning consecutive Mid-South Conference West Division titles and clinching playoff berths for the first time since 2001.
• Campbellsville is 67-86 while playing on the road.
Perry Thomas' away record is 20-25.
 
PREVIOUS MATCHUP
 
• For the fourth straight year, Fighting Tiger football came away with a homecoming victory, defeating UPIKE 42-34 last season on Oct. 10.
• It was another shootout after both teams combined for 1,099 yards of total offense.
• Pikeville picked up 353 of its 519 yards on the ground with Quan Weaver leading the Bears with a career-high 230.
• QB Jacob Russell finished with a new single-game record, throwing for 426 yards.
• After trailing 20-14 at half time, Campbellsville shut the Bears out in the third quarter and scored 28 unanswered points to take a 42-20 lead.
• But the Bears awoke in the fourth quarter scoring twice and bringing the Tiger lead back to eight, 42-34.
Stephon Tanga led the defensive charge with 13 tackles. Fontez Hill also had a big day defensively with 10 tackles - three for loss. Keith Foster recorder three pass breakups in the secondary with TO Smith and Marquis Cain both finishing with two.
• In addition to seven catches and two touchdowns for Jarrod Harrington and Russell's passing yards, Russell also ran for 51 yards to finish with a total of 468 to break the most offensive yards gained in a single game.
