HENDERSON, Tenn. — Campbellsville used an efficient offense, scoring on 60 percent of its five shots on goal, in dispatching Freed-Hardeman, 3-0, in the first of back-to-back matches tonight at the Lions Cup Invitational.
After not getting much done through the first 10 minutes, the Lady Tigers used a sweet pass from
Breanna Baptiste that found
Erica McWilliams and the senior from Benton, Ky. netted, what turned out to be, the only goal CU (4-0) would need.
Amanda Howard collected four first-half saves and did not see a shot on goal in six attempts by Freed Hardeman in the second half. It was Howard's second shutout of the season.
Baptiste added her first goal of the season in the 36
th minute to spot CU a 2-0 lead and
Taylor Beals scored her second goal of the season for a 3-0 lead with just three minutes left in the first half.
Campbellsville applied immediate pressure in the second half, missing on two attempts in the first minute when
Taylor Pence and Baptiste sent balls a little wide.
Chelsea Gill and Baptiste had the other two shots in the second 45 minutes, in the 58
th and 72
nd minutes, respectively.
CU outshot FHU 11-10 with five shots on goal to four for the Lions. Baptiste led the team with three shots and Gill had two. Six players, including
Rachel Mobley,
Taylor Pence,
Valeska Tovar and
Taylor Beals and Erica and
Rachel McWilliams, recorded one shot.
The Lady Tigers return to the pitch Friday, Sept. 2 at 7 ET when they take on Dalton State.
