Dalton State upsets No. 14 Lady Tigers in Lions Cup finale

HENDERSON, Tenn. — Dalton State College scored two goals in the first half and held on late to upset No. 14 Lady Tiger soccer on Friday night in the Lions Cup finale.

Campbellsville (4-1) drops its first game of the season, while Dalton State improves to 2-0 overall.

The Road Runners picked up an early score from Andrea Garcia in the 6th minute and added on to that lead with what ended up being the game-winner in the 27th.

Campbellsville dominated the possession for most of the game, recording seven shots in the first half and nine in the second half but was unable to capitalize on its nine shots on goal. Dalton State was 2-for-2 on its first half shots but the CU defense didn't allow a shot on goal in the second half.

The Lady Tigers picked up a spark from sophomore Taylor Beals in the 82nd minute – her third goal of the season - but it was too little too late.

Opposite of Howard, Rachel Hardin finished with career-high eight saves in goal for Dalton State.

On the season, the Lady Tigers have struggled with capitalizing on opportunities by recorded 62 total shots with only 36 on goal and scoring just 12 times.

Campbellsville will now complete its five-game road trip on Wednesday, Sept. 7 as it travels to Brescia University for an 8 p.m. ET start. Live stats will be available through StatBroadcast and Dakstats.
