MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. — A pair of underclassmen led Tiger golf in the opening round of the NCCAA Mid-East Regional at the RTJ Schoolmaster Golf Club. After Day 1, Campbellsville sits in first place after shooting nine-over, 297.
Sophomore
Tristan Blevins and freshman
Justin Warman both fired one-over 73s to sit tied atop the leaderboard, while senior
James Higgins is third with a three-over 75. Sophomore
Justin Riffle is right behind Higgins in fourth place, finishing the first round with a four-over 76.
Blevins had to work his way back into first place after recording a double bogey on the par-three second hole. He finished the front-nine with seven pars but bogeyed the ninth to go out at three-over. Then Blevins caught fire and recorded three birdies in the next six holes before bogeying the 16
th and finishing with a 73.
Warman finished with three bogeys and a pair of birdies in his first round. He went out at two-over before recording birdies on the 11
th and 13
th holes. He also bogeyed the 16
th hole to drop back to 73.
Higgins and Riffle round out Campbellsville's Top 4 with four birdies and 11 bogeys between the two.
In addition,
Robert Johnson sits in seventh place after an opening round 80. He finished with one birdie, seven bogeys and one double to shoot eight-over par.
Bluefield College currently sits in second place after finishing the first round with a team score of 331. Belhaven (359) and Hiwassee College (361) round out the four-team qualifier in third and fourth place, respectively.
Round two of the NCCAA Mid-East Regional tees off tomorrow, Tuesday, Sept. 13 and live stats is available. The winner will earn an automatic bid to the NCCAA National Championship in Panama City Beach, Fla. in October.
