OAKLAND CITY, Ind. — Lady Tiger soccer outshot Oakland City University 38-4 and capitalized on 9-of-25 shots on goal to down the Oaks, 9-0.
The last time Campbellsville (7-1) scored nine goals in one game was in 2013 when CU defeated University of the Cumberlands 11-0 to end the regular season. CU also scored 10 and nine goals, respectively, in the 2013 season against University of Pikeville and Union College.
The Lady Tigers dominated every facet of the game, as goalkeeper
Amanda Howard finished with just two saves and gave way to sophomore
Shelby Lash for the final 10-plus minutes. But a lot of the credit goes to the Lady Tigers back-four –
Taylor Pence,
Jordan Stallings,
Rachel Seals and
Anne Hare.
On the offensive side of the field, a pair of Lady Tiger freshmen scored multiple goals, as
Madison Kennedy and
Breanna Baptiste pushed their season marks to five and three goals, respectively. Kennedy also added one career assist.
It all started in the ninth minute with a
Chelsea Gill cross finding the right foot of
Taylor Beals. But the Lady Tigers would only score once more in the first half. Kennedy found fellow freshman
Lakin Walls inside the 18-yard box and she beat OCU's Brae Cargal.
In the second half it was all Campbellsville. Baptiste started the scoring after captains Howard and
Chelsea Gill picked up assists. Howard booted a goal kick that Gill headed behind the defense to lead to Baptiste's first score of the game giving CU a 3-0 lead.
Just under four minutes later, Kennedy picked up her first of what would be consecutive goals in the 59
th minute and then once again in the 63
rd – assisted by
Rachel McWilliams. But then
Rachel McWilliams got in on the action just 1:30 after that – scoring on a free kick that got through the wall just outside the 18-yard box.
In the final 15 minutes, Baptiset added to the score, 7-0, before coach
Thom Jones was able to play a few reserve players quality minutes. Senior
Jade Perry took full advantage with a goal in the 77
th minute and then assisting freshman
Makayla Shearer for her first career score in the 83
rd to round out the Lady Tigers day.
Brae finished with 11 saves on the day but allowed six of the Lady Tigers' nine goals. Lauren Wuerth played the last 15 minutes and allowed the final three CU scores.
Campbellsville returns to the pitch on Saturday night as it hosts Taylor University at 6 p.m. ET at Finley Stadium and Citizens Bank Field. Live video and live stats will be available.
