Lady Tigers split matches against Cardinal Stritch and St. Francis

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. — Campbellsville stopped one win streak, but couldn't another, as Lady Tiger volleyball split two highly competitive matches on the opening day of the Holiday Inn Express Invite hosted by Olivet Nazarene University.
 
CU rallied for a five-set win in match one against Cardinal Stritch, but St. Francis made the plays down the stretch to defeat the Lady Tigers in four.
 
Campbellsville 3, Cardinal Stritch 2 (23-15, 25-19, 26-28, 25-18, 15-8)
 
The Wolves had a five-match win streak busted as Campellsville (11-5) used double-figure kills (12 apiece) from Annija Abolina and Maria Coelho to help seal the comeback.
 
Inoa Fields set the table with 18 assists and 10 digs to complete a double-double. Jessie Pendleton had 24 digs to lead all players and Abolina and Coelho had 11 and 10, respectively.
 
Julia Fonseca had two blocks. Abolina had four aces out of 11 for the team and Coelho and Ashlyn Flock two apiece.
 
St. Francis 3, Campbellsville 1 (27-25, 26-28, 25-21, 25-17)
 
The Fighting Saints had a three-match win streak going and they kept it alive. After CU squeeked by in the first set 27-25, St. Francis turned the tables 28-26 in the second and then won the third and fourth sets.
 
Abolina had 16 kills to lead all players and she was joined in double figures by Jessie Stone (11) and Coelho (10).
 
Fields had 45 assist and 13 digs for another double-double.
 
Besides Fields, five others players recorded double-figure digs, led by Pendleton's 31. Savannah Moss has 17, Jamie Thompson and Abolina 12 each and Coelho chipped in with 10. Coelho was credited with two service aces.
 
Campbellsville remains in Bourbonnais for Day 2 matchups against Olivet Nazarene (10 a.m.) and St. Xavier (2 p.m.)
