Tiger football travels to Bluefield College on Saturday

BLUEFIELD, W.Va. — Looking for its first win of 2016, Campbellsville University football travels to Bluefield, W. Va. for a battle with the Bluefield College Rams this weekend.
 
Kickoff is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 24 at 1:30 p.m. ET at Mitchell Stadium.

Series Facts:
• Campbellsville and Bluefield are meeting for the third time in history, with CU winning each of the two previous matchups.
• With piles of snow still around from a storm that spawned earlier in the week from remnants of Hurricane Sandy, the Tigers beat the Rams in Bluefield, Nov. 10, 2012, 23-13.
• Leading 19-14 in the middle of the second quarter last season, the Tigers outscored the Rams 21-0 to go on and win 40-14.
• CU racked up 570 yards and held the Rams to just 258.

Tiger Clawz:
• Both Campbellsville and Bluefield enter play this weekend looking for their first wins of the 2016 season.
• Saturday marks the second-straight meeting between CU and BC in the fourth game of the year.
• CU has started the season 0-3 for the first time since 2012. The Tigers have fallen to 0-4 just four times in program history - 1988, 1993, 2007 and 2012.
• Bluefield has started the season 0-4 for the fourth time in the previous five years.
• Since adding football in 2012, the Rams have an overall record of 4-44 and 1-22 in MSC Divisional games.
• Campbellsville boasts an all-time record of 145-159-1.
• Coach Perry Thomas is 6-2 in fourth games of the season and has won three straight.
• Head coaches Perry Thomas and Ordell Walker are meeting for the second time while at their respective schools but the series between the two goes back to the 2011 Victory Bowl when Walker coached Greenville (S.C.). CU beat the Panthers, 21-7 for their first NCCAA Title.
• In the first three games of the season, kicker Bradley Bates has hit five field goals - including a career-long 37-yard field goal against Cumberlands. He ranks No. 3 in the NAIA in field goals (5) and No. 9 in total scoring (25).
• Quarterback Hunter Brown has started the year very well for the Tigers, ranking No. 10 in the NAIA in total passing yards (893) and No. 7 in passing yards/game (297).
Tyus Alcorn has been Brown's favorite target. Alcorn ranks No. 5 in the NAIA with 24 receptions, receptions per game (8) and receiving yards per game (123). He also ranks No. 6 in total receiving yards (371).
• Like Cumberlands, Bluefield's offensive ratio is 2-1 run/pass.
• The Rams have rushed for 762 yards to be ranked No. 11 in the NAIA. Bluefield led by Alex Martin, averaging 76 rushing yards per game.
• Ashten Dixon has only one passing touchdown this season and average 86.3 yards.
• Kevin Burkhead is stating game No. 305 on Saturday as the lead stat-man for the Fighting Tigers since 1987. He has not missed a game since the reberth of the program.
