Keysha Martin, Lady Tigers win Green River Classic

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — Keysha Martin was the lone competitor in the field of 83 women that accounted for 1,000-plus pins this weekend and kept the Green River Classic trophy at Campbellsville University.

Martin finished with 1,012 pins to win the title but she didn't make it easy on herself. She didn't start well in the first two games, bowling 189-178, but them came right back with the highest number of the tournament in the third game. She bowled a 236 that started the rally of three-consecutive games in the 200's to take home the crown.

Teammate Bailey James finished runner-up and had two games in the 200's herself. James bowled a 220 and 210 in the second and third games, respectively, to outpace Sarah Doyle from University of the Cumberlands, 984-932.

In addition to the individual champion and runner-up, the Lady Tigers pulled out the team victory as well over Cumberlands. Leading after Day 1 with 4,515 pins, the Lady Tigers were able to hold off a rally in Baker Games by the Patriots. UC finished with a tournament-high 2,222 pins in the 12 Baker Games and Campbellsville fell back with 2,147. But the Lady Tigers' margin after Day 1 kept CU in front by 92 total pins (6,662 – 6,570).

The Lady Tigers were the lone team to have three individuals in the Top 10. After Martin and James, Crystal Land placed 10th with 852 pins. Mackenzie Taylor, who was competing on the junior varsity team, was the second-highest JV competitor on the leaderboard. She finished in 22nd place with 795 pints. Jazmine Taylor (Cumberlands) had the JV lead with 830 pins to finish in 18th.
