COLUMBIA, Ky. — Lindsey Wilson broke a scoreless tie in the 75
th minute and added another goal in the 87
th to down No. 22 Campbellsville, 2-nil, in the Lady Tigers' Mid-South Conference opener.
The sixth-ranked Blue Raiders had chance after chance but the Lady Tigers defense held strong until the 75
th. On consecutive corner kick opportunities, Ivana Damnjanovic played a perfect ball into the box and Yvonne Plueg used a header to net her third goal of the season.
The Blue Raiders then put a little breathing room between themselves and the Lady Tigers who were threatening late. Damnjanovic scored in the 87
th minute off a pass from Lyana Perez to dash the Lady Tigers' chances of an upset.
Goalkeeper
Amanda Howard got her money's worth tonight, facing 24 shots and eight on goal for the Blue Raiders. Howard finished with five saves to run her season total to 40.
The Lady Tigers had a few chances late. Freshman
Lakin Walls had a pair of shots – one on goal – but couldn't get either to fall for the equalizer. Campbellsville finished with just the two shots.
The Lady Tigers fall to 8-3 on the season and 0-1 inside conference play. The Blue Raiders improve to 5-3 overall and 2-0 in conference play.
Campbellsville will have a week to prepare for another MSC rivalry matchup, as CU hosts Georgetown College on Wednesday, Oct. 5 at Finley Stadium and Citizens Bank Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. ET.
