COVINGTON, Ga. —
James Higgins jumped up the leaderboard 12 spots to lead Tiger golf to a seventh place finish at the SCAD-Atlanta Fall Invitational on Wednesday afternoon.
The Tigers fired almost identical scores (295-296) in their first two rounds of the season. Point University jumped Union College for the team title, firing a final round 278. The Skyhawks shot 282-278 to outpace the Bulldogs, 281-287.
Faulkner University jumped Reinhardt for third place honors, firing 288-281, while the Eagles placed fourth, 287-284. SCAD-Atlanta finished fifth, firing a team score of four-over par (288-284). University of the Cumberlands and Campbellsville rounded out the team scores at 22 and 23-over par, respectively.
After an opening round of three-over par, Higgins fired a one-under 70 on Wednesday to work his way into the Top 15, finishing tied for 14
th.
Tristan Blevins placed 26
th but dropped 12 spots with a second-round 75 (72-75), while
Justin Warman finished tied for 33
rd (75-74) in his first career tournament.
Justin Riffle was tied for the second-lowest round of the the final round, shooting two-under 69. But an opening round 87 hurt his chances of finishing higher on the leaderboard, placing 42
nd.
Rounding out the Tigers was
Robert Johnson (80-77) and
Justin Hazel (74-85) to finish tied for 43
rd and 45
th, respectively.
Campbellsville will now have a week to prepare for the National Christian College Athletic Association Mid-East Regional hosted in Muscle Shoals, Ala. Sept. 12-13. Coach
Jim Ward has set his lineup with Higgins, Blevins, Warman, Riffle and Johnson as the top five golfers.
