Tigers lose season opener to Cincinnati Christian, 3-0

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – In the first match of the inaugural season for Tiger Volleyball, Cincinnati Christian stole all the excitement with a 3-0 victory tonight.

The Eagles (1-0) set the tone early in the first set, forcing Campbellsville (0-1) to call its first timeout after trailing 14-6. The Tigers battled to keep up the rest of the set with six more kills, but gave up the opening set to the Eagles, 25-15.

Set 2 provided a clean slate for the Tigers who used a 4-1 run to knot the second set at seven. The lead flip-flopped the rest of the way until the Tigers had two match points at 24-22. But Campbellsville gave up two set points and the set was eventually tied at 25. That's when Cincinnati Christian sealed second set, 28-26, with two kills by Nick Richard.

Errors hurt the Tigers in the match, but more so in the third set. After giving up 15 points the final set went to Cincinnati Christian, 25-16.

Adam Conklin and Rafael Cruz led the Tiger offense with double-digit kills. Conklin sported 11, followed closely by Cruz with 10. Bryce Johnson featured a .636 hitting percentage with eight kills.
