No. 24 Women’s Volleyball returns to Mid-South Conference action on Tuesday at Shawnee State

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The 24th-ranked Campbellsville women's volleyball team is back in Mid-South Conference play on Tuesday night as it travels to Portsmouth, Ohio to face Shawnee State University at 6 p.m. ET.
 
The Lady Tigers enter the contest on a five-match win streak and they are 16-3 on the season, while holding a 4-2 MSC mark.
 
During Campbellsville's last match, it stepped out of conference play and swept Bethel University, 3-0. The Lady Tigers had an efficient match on offense against the Wildcats hitting at a .378 clip and hit over .450 in the first two sets of the match.
 
Campbellsville's defense also stepped up last week as it held Bethel to a .052 attacking percentage. Annija Abolina led the Lady Tigers with a match-high 11 kills and hit .556. Maliyah Tela recorded 33 assists, while Marcella Compeau was on the only player in the match to record at least 10 digs.
 
Maria Coelho and Abolina have led the Campbellsville offense this season with 175 and 168 kills, respectively. Julia Fonseca has also eclipsed 150 kills this season, while also leading the team with a .376 attacking percentage this season an she leads the Lady Tiger block with 51.
 
Shawnee State enters Tuesday's match with a record of 6-14 and it is 1-7 in conference action. The Bears are currently on six-match slide and they have lost 12 of their last 14 matches. Shawnee State is facing its second top 25 opponent in as many days, after falling in four sets to No. 17 Georgetown College on Monday night.
 
Christina Shelton has led the Bears this season and is one kill away from breaking the 200-kill benchmark. Deanna Smith has guided Shawnee State with 621 assists on 772 kills for the Bears this season. Carson Roney ranks 21st in the nation with a .332 attacking percentage, while chipping in with 148 kills – which ranks third on the team.
 
Campbellsville and Shawnee State met just two-and-a-half weeks ago in Campbellsville, Ky., where the Lady Tigers picked up a 3-0 victory. The loss by the Bears was their second in the midst of their current six-match skid. Coelho led the way for Campbellsville with 16 kills, while Fonseca chipped in with 10 on 19 attempts. Shawnee State hit just .088 compared to .217 from the Lady Tigers.
 
First serve on Tuesday night is set for 6 p.m. ET from Frank & Janis Waller Gymnasium in Portsmouth, Ohio.
