VALDOSTA, Ga. — Junior
Michaela Jarman jumped up the leaderboard seven spots and finished in eighth place to lead Campbellsville women's golf at the Thomas University Invitational.
The Lady Tigers also jumped up the team leaderboard one spot and finished in a tie for third place with Mid-South Conference foe Lindsey Wilson College. CU shot matching 316s while the Blue Raiders went 319-313.
Jarman, a junior from Danville, Ky., finished by firing a two-over 74 - her lowest round of the year and third-lowest in her career. Jarman rolled through her first 11 holes by picking up birdies on the par-four 10
th and par-five 14
th hole to get her round to two-under.
It was holes one through six that gave her the most problems today, though. Jarman bogeyed Nos. 1 and 2, doubled the par-five fourth and bogeyed the par-four sixth dropping back to three-over. But she finished strong by chipping in for birdie on the par-four seventh – her last hole.
Devany Cope carded a round-high five birdies on Day 2 but finished with a three-over 75 moving up the leaderboard a tournament-high 14 positions.
Kylie Withrow dropped down the leaderboard five spots with a final-round 80 to finish tied with Cope in 10
th place.
Kristen Miller and
Kayla Rodgers also fell off the pace with final round 87 and 89, respectively. Miller placed tied for 34
th and Rodgers in 36
th.
Kaitlyn Riley fired 68-72 in her two rounds to earn medalist honors. She out-paced University of the Cumberlands teammate Lucia Pena by five strokes after Pena fired 70-75.
The fourth-ranked Patriots won the team tournament with scores of 294-303 (597). They defeated No. 2 Dalton State University by two strokes (298, 301; 599). Lindsey Wilson and Campbellsville tied with matching scores of 632.
Campbellsville women's golf will now have two weeks to prepare for the National Christian College Athletic Association Championship which is scheduled for Oct. 23-25 at Hammock Break Resort in Palm Coast, Fla.
