CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The 24th-ranked Campbellsville women's volleyball team wraps up its stretch of eight-straight matches away from home on Thursday night at the University of Pikeville starting at 7 p.m. ET.
The Lady Tigers are on a six-match win streak and sit at 17-3 on the season. Campbellsville is currently third in the Mid-South Conference standings at 6-2. The Lady Tigers are two games back in the win column of Georgetown College who is 8-2 in conference action.
Campbellsville picked up a 3-0 win over Shawnee State University earlier this week in Portsmouth, Ohio. The Lady Tigers came from behind in each set to sweep the Bears for the second time this season.
Annija Abolina led Campbellsville with 12 kills and seven aces, while recording a .333 attacking percentage against the Bears.
Marcella Compeau finished the match with 21 digs and she now has four 20-dig matches this season with each of those coming in the last seven contests.
Maria Coelho and Abolina have led the Lady Tiger attack this season with 184 and 180 kills, respectively. Four individuals for Campbellsville have at least 15 kills this season, while
Julia Fonseca has been the most efficient hitter for the Lady Tigers with a .371 attacking mark. Compeau leads Campbellsville with 242 digs and
Maliyah Tela has recorded 691 assists over 20 matches this year.
Pikeville comes into the match on Thursday in search of its first MSC victory of the season as it is currently 0-8. The Bears slipped to 5-16 on the year following a 3-0 loss at home to No. 17 Georgetown on Wednesday night. Pikeville is currently on six-match losing streak, where it has only won a combined three sets.
Savanna Zakman leads the Bears with 508 assists and 43 aces, while her 92 kills are third most on the team. Noelani Simpson is the only player for Pikeville to eclipse 150 kills as she enters the match with 225 kills.
Campbellsville and Pikeville met just over two weeks ago, were the Lady Tigers swept the Bears at home to hand Pikeville its second loss in its current six-match slide.
Julia Fonseca had career night with 19 kills – her most in a three-set match – where 10 kills came in the first set.
