Howard sets career shutout record as Women’s Soccer beats Cumberlands on Senior Night, 1-0

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Amanda Howard made three saves in the women's soccer team's 1-0 victory over University of the Cumberlands to set the new program record with 29 shutouts in her career to highlight Senior Night on Tuesday.

Breanna Baptiste scored the lone goal in the match for the Lady Tigers (5-9-1, 3-1-1 Mid-South Conference) and pushed them ahead of the Patriots (6-7-1, 2-2-1) in the conference standings.

Both teams played even through the first 45 minutes of action with the game staying scoreless at the half. Cumberlands held the advantage in shots (5-4) and shots on goal (3-1).

Baptiste broke the ice in the 51st minute with her second goal of the season. With defender on her back, Baptiste chipped the ball over her defender and she ran the ball down at the top of the 18-yard box. After she regained possession, Baptiste chipped the ball past the charging Patriot goalkeeper and gave the Lady Tigers 1-0 lead.

With just under 15 minutes to play, Baptiste tried to double the Campbellsville lead after Christie Funk charged off of her line once more, but Baptiste pushed her shot just wide.

The Lady Tigers generated the majority of the scoring chances in the second half as they fired eight shots toward goal, compared to just one from Cumberlands. Of the eight shots for Campbellsville, just one shot hit the target, while the one Patriots shot was on goal.

Late in the match, the Patriots tried to control the possession, but their crosses that were sent into the box were cleared out by the Lady Tiger defense.

Campbellsville hung on to win the match 1-0 and pick up its third-straight victory.

With the win, Campbellsville is now in sole possession of third place in the conference standings with two matches to go.

Next up, the Lady Tigers travel to Ohio to face Shawnee State University at 6 p.m. ET in their final road match of the regular season.
