CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – After playing its last eight matches away from home, the Campbellsville women's volleyball team returns to Powell Athletic Center on Thursday night to host University of the Cumberlands at 7 p.m. ET.
The Lady Tigers were in action one week ago and they defeated University of Pikeville in three sets. In the match,
Annija Abolina recorded a match-high 15 kills, while Campbellsville hit .427 for the match, which was its first time all season the Lady Tigers hit over .400.
Kate Harris also recorded a career-best 25 assists against the Bears.
Marcella Compeau racked up 43 digs in two matches last week to earn her second Mid-South Conference Defensive Player of the Week honor in three weeks.
Entering Thursday, the Lady Tigers have an 18-3 record and they sit in third place in the Mid-South with a record of 7-2. Campbellsville is two games behind Georgetown College in the win column as both teams have two losses in the MSC. Campbellsville has also won its last seven matches including the last three in straight sets.
As a team, the Lady Tigers rank 23rd in the NAIA with a .233 attacking percentage, led by
Julia Fonseca and Abolina with hitting marks of .375 and .309, respectively. The duo also ranks second and third on the team with 195 and 168 kills this season. Compeau has anchored the Campbellsville defense with 264 digs and 3.72 digs per set.
Cumberlands comes into the match with an 11-14 record and a 4-6 conference mark. The Patriots have lost their last six matches and they have only won one set during that span. Mackenzie Koch leads Cumberlands with 229 kills this season, but she is hitting at a .186 rate this season. Tara Routliffe leads the Mid-South Conference with 6.20 digs per set – which ranks sixth in the nation. Lynsey Short has guided the Patriot offense this season with 746 assists and 9.21 assists per set.
During the first meeting this season between Campbellsville and Cumberlands, the Lady Tigers rallied from a set down to defeat the Patriots, 3-1, in the conference opener. Abolina had 24 kills in the match, while
Olivia Jarvis set a career-high with 11 kills.
Maliyah Tela also set a career best with 51 assists.
