CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – After dropping a top-25 contest at No. 17 Georgetown College on Tuesday, the 24th-ranked Campbellsville women's volleyball team returns to Georgetown, Ky., on Friday and Saturday for the Boneyard Brawl.
The Lady Tigers are set to face No. 10 Columbia College and Union College on Friday followed by matches against Indiana Wesleyan University – who is receiving votes – and NCAA Division II Central State University on Saturday.
Campbellsville had its nine-game winning streak snapped against Georgetown on Tuesday, when Georgetown erased a 2-1 deficit to outlast Campbellsville in a five-set thriller.
Kate Harris set a career best with 46 assists, while
Marcella Compeau finished with a match-high 31 digs and
Annija Abolina recorded 17 kills.
On the season, Abolina has led Campbellsville's offense with 248 kills and a .305 hitting mark.
Maria Coelho is the only other Lady Tiger with over 200 kills after notching 226 through 24 matches. Compeau leads Campbellsville with 349 digs this season and 4.15 digs per set.
Kate Harris has bumped up her assists per set average to 6.07 after recording over 20 assists in her last four matches and over 30 assists in the last two.
Columbia enters the tournament with a 26-4 mark and is winners of its last four matches. Jaime Pamela leads the Cougars with 249 kills this season. Columbia has the second-best block in the nation with 286 on the season led by Zori Curry with 129 – which is sixth most in the NAIA. Curry also leads the team with 42 aces.
Union is currently on a six-match winning streak and has won 21 of its last 24 matches to sit at 26-7 on the season. The Bulldogs have five players with over 150 kills, led by Rachel Andrews with 335. Andrews ranks 15th in the nation with a .357 attacking percentage and Paulina Hileman is seventh in the NAIA with 644 digs this season.
Indiana Wesleyan is 22-8 on the season and won its last two matches. The Wildcats rank 11th in the nation as a team with 12.68 assists per set and 13th with 1,344 assists. The duo of Morgan Miller and Tay Thomas lead the Indiana Wesleyan offense with Thomas racking up 309 kills and Miller has 298 kills.
Central State is 6-20 this season at the NCAA Division II level. The Marauders dropped its last three contests without winning a set. Michaela Powell is the only player for Central State with over 200 kills. She has 262 kills and is second on the team with 222 digs. Regine Harris leads the team with 237 digs and Brea Lowe has a team-best 49 blocks.
Campbellsville met Columbia and Indiana Wesleyan earlier this season, where the Lady Tigers dropped a five-set contest to the Cougars at the Holiday Inn Express Classic. At the same tournament, Campbellsville picked up a three-set victory over Indiana Wesleyan on the same day of the tournament.
The last time the Lady Tigers faced Union was at the Lindsey Wilson College Classic last season. Just three matches into the season, Campbellsville lost a 3-2 decision to the Bulldogs. Saturday's match between the Lady Tigers and Central State will be the first between the two programs.
Campbellsville begins the Boneyard Brawl on Friday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. ET against Columbia and then the Lady Tigers face Union at 7 p.m. ET. On Saturday, Campbellsville takes on Indiana Wesleyan at 12:30 p.m. ET, followed by a 3 p.m. ET contest against Central State to round out the tournament in Georgetown, Ky.
