CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The 20th-ranked Campbellsville football team fell short in its Homecoming upset bid over No. 9 Georgetown College in a double-overtime loss, 31-24, at Finley Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
 
Campbellsville (6-1, 3-1 MSC Bluegrass Division) gained just 121 yards in the first half, but racked up 328 yards in the second half to finish the game with 449 yards of total offense. Hunter Brown threw for 400 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Brown also completed 28-of-55 passes – where his 55 pass attempts are tied for fifth-most in a single-game in program history. Kendon Young led the Campbellsville wide receivers with eight catches for 139 yards.

Elmer Barron paced the Campbellsville defense with four sacks, which tied the program single-game record. He finished the game with seven tackles, while Kahlil Baker recorded 11 tackles to lead the way. Jaquis Davis grabbed the lone Campbellsville turnover with an interception to halt a Georgetown (7-0, 4-0 MSC Bluegrass) at the end of the first half and he finished with career-best eight tackles.
 
After a Campbellsville three-and-out where it was pushed back eight yards, Georgetown took its opening drive of the game 51 yards in 14 plays for a touchdown. Georgetown used 5:39 on the drive and converted three fourth downs on the drives to grab the early 7-0 lead. After that drive, Georgetown only attempted and converted on one more fourth down for the entire game.
 
Campbellsville continued to struggle on offense with Georgetown racking up three sacks over the first two drives, where Campbellsville went three-and-out both times.
 
Georgetown stretched its lead to 10-0 after Tyler Dummer hit a 31-yard field goal, but the Campbellsville offense found its stride marching 61 yards down the field in seven plays for a touchdown. Holtsclaw rushed in from seven yards out for his 10th score of the season. Georgetown blocked the ensuing point after attempt and Campbellsville cut its deficit to 10-6.
 
On its next possession, Campbellsville took the lead after Brown tossed a 24-yard touchdown pass to Jordan Duff to finish off an eight-play, 69-yard drive to give Campbellsville a 13-10 advantage just 46 seconds into the second quarter.
 
The Georgetown offense countered with its second drive of over 4:30 as it went 77 yards in 11 plays. Georgetown took a 17-13 lead with Riley Hall hitting Robert Cox on the fade route from the Campbellsville three-yard line.
 
Campbellsville earned a short field after Jordan Brown returned a punt 18 yards back to the Georgetown 24-yard line. Campbellsville could not take full advantage of the the short field as it had to settle for a field goal from Bates from 26 yards out as Campbellsville pulled within a point heading into the half.
 
Defense was the story in the first half with both side picking up five sacks, and Barron tied the program's single-game sack record with four in the first 30 minutes of action.
 
To start the second half, the Campbellsville defense forced Georgetown into its third three-and-out of the day. Campbellsville looked to regain the lead with an 11-play, 72-yard drive, but Campbellsville was forced to kick a field goal from the three-yard line and Bates missed the opportunity from 19 yards away, which kept Georgetown ahead, 17-16.
 
Campbellsville continued to miss scoring opportunities as it missed its second field goal in three drive. Georgetown's defense kept them ahead 17-16 after another defensive stop. Neither team put points on the board in the third quarter as Georgetown maintained its one-point edge heading into the final quarter of regulation.
 
After being pinned at its own two-yard line, Campbellsville regained the lead with a 12-play 98-yard drive. After being shutdown in the red zone twice in the second half, Campbellsville finally punched in a touchdown with a six-yard touchdown connection from Hunter Brown to Brayden Russell to put Campbellsville on top, 22-17, with 7:56 left in regulation. Brown then hit Keanu Young for the two-point conversion to give Campbellsville a 24-17 lead.
 
Georgetown answered back with a 74-yard drive that ended with Daric Pugh rushing in from two yards out to tie the game at 24.
 
Campbellsville had two tries to regain the lead, but Bates missed his third field goal of the day and a fumble from Keanu Young pushed the game into overtime.
 
During the first overtime, Campbellsville had possession first and had a drive going toward the end zone, but Hunter Brown threw his first interception of the day to give Georgetown possession needing just a field goal to win.
 
Georgetown set up for a 27-yard field goal try to win the game on its first overtime possession, but Luckandre Vassor came up big with a block to send the game into a second overtime.
 
To start the second overtime, Georgetown scored a touchdown on just two plays to take a 31-24 lead after Pugh rushed in for his second touchdown of the day. Campbellsville then took over possession needing a touchdown and an extra point to keep the game alive.
 
Brown hit Zerric Wills for a 23-yard gain to put Campbellsville at the two-yard line. Campbellsville's red zone struggles continued as Georgetown held Campbellsville out of the end zone and Georgetown escaped with a 31-24 victory.
 
Campbellsville ended the game going 3-for-8 in the red zone, while Georgetown went 5-for-6. Both teams struggled on third down with Campbellsville converting 3-of-15 opportunities and Georgetown was 5-for-19.
