CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The 13th-ranked Campbellsville men's soccer team faces its second ranked opponent of the 2017 season when it hosts No. 24 Cumberland University on Tuesday night at 8 p.m. ET.
The Tigers are 7-1-0 on the season and picked up a 6-0 victory over Georgetown College in their last match to start out the Mid-South Conference season.
Ignacio Mangada and
Lucas Batistela each recorded two goals for Campbellsville. Mangada scored the first two goals of the match, while Batistela put the match out of reach with the final two goals.
In just under 75 minutes of action,
Andreas Nota made three saves to help the Campbellsville record its fifth shutout of the season.
Mangada has paced the Campbellsville offense with seven goals and 15 points, while
Nathan Heath – who scored against Georgetown – has chipped in with five goals. Seven different players have scored at least two goals for Campbellsville this season. The Tigers have the 10th-most shutouts during the season with five, while Nota has anchored the backline with 31 saves.
Cumberland enters the match with an 8-1-0 record and defeated University of the Cumberlands in its first MSC match of the season, 3-0. The Phoenix have won its last five matches and has not allowed a goal during the winning streak. Cumberland's only loss of the season came at Tennessee Wesleyan, 3-1.
Daniel Williams leads the Phoenix with nine goals and he ranks fourth in the NAIA with four game-winning goals. Williams' nine goals are second in the Mid-South. Bennet Strutz has made 17 saves in nine starts this season allowing just five goals and recording five shutouts.
Last season, Campbellsville defeated Cumberland in Lebanon, Tennessee, 3-1, where
Yudai Yamauchi finished with a goal and an assist. The two teams also met in the semifinals of the Mid-South Conference Tournament. The Tigers hung on to beat the Phoenix, 1-0.
Opening kick is slated for 8 p.m. ET time following the conclusion of the women's match at Citizens Bank Field and Finley Stadium.
