CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — Cumberland University's Emily Shires uncorked a 1-1 tie in the 73
rd minute to upend Campbellsville women's soccer on Tuesday night, 2-1.
The Lady Tigers (2-9-1, 0-1-1 MSC) and Phoenix fought hard all night as Cumberland (6-3-1, 2-0 MSC) took a 1-0 lead in the ninth minute. Rebecca Holloway centered a pass and Mariah Aplin was there to deliver the early advantage.
Campbellsville rallied right back though in the 34
th minute as
Valeska Tovar centered a ball in the box and found McKayla Shearer for the equalizer.
Campbellsville held possession for the most part of the first period with seven shots compared to only six for the Phoenix. After the opening goal for Cumberland, CU saw multiple opportunities but were unable to finish.
The second half stats didn't do the Lady Tigers justice as CU finished with only one shot in the final 45 minutes and Cumberland tallied 10. Campbellsville's one shot came in the 87
th minute after Cumberland goalkeeper Ashley Kambeitz fired an inadvertent pass just outside the box but
Lakin Walls was unable to capitalize.
Kambeitz finished with four saves on the night.

Amanda Howard kept the Lady Tigers in the match with eight saves but Shires' goal in the 73
rd minute proved to be the deciding factor.
The Lady Tigers will now remain at Finley Stadium to host University of Pikeville on Friday, Oct. 6. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. ET.
