CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The 12th-ranked Campbellsville men's soccer team is back at home for the second time this week as it hosts University of Pikeville at 8 p.m. ET at Finley Stadium on Friday night.
The Tigers enter the contest with a recorded of 7-1-1 and a 1-0-1 mark in Mid-South Conference action after playing to a 1-1 draw with No. 24 Cumberland University on Tuesday night.
In a physical battle that saw the Phoenix play with 10 men for nearly the last 50 minutes of the match, Campbellsville could only score once as
Yudai Yamauchi scored the lone goal for the Tigers in the 56th minute. The Tigers held a 12-10 advantage in shots, but Cumberland had five shots on goal compared to four from the Tigers.
Through the first nine matches of the season, Campbellsville has outscored its opponents 26-8. Five of the goals the Tigers have given up came in it lone loss of the season to Bethel University. Campbellsville's five shutouts this season are 14th-most in the nation.
Ignacio Mangada leads the Tigers with seven goals and 15 points this season, while
Nathan Heath has recorded five goals and Yamauchi has three goals and a team-best three assists.
Pikeville comes into Friday's match with a 2-7-1 record and has lost its first two MSC matches to Life University (5-1) and University of the Cumberlands (2-0). Eric Bernabeu leads the offensive attack for the Bears with six goals, followed by Max Isenberg with four. Anibal Navarro has made 47 saves in 10 appearances on the season and he ranks within the top 50 in the NAIA in saves.
In last year's matchup between the two programs, Campbellsville earned a 10-0 victory on the road over Pikeville. Three different Tigers recorded at least two goals in the match, while nine different players recorded a point.
Campbellsville continues its MSC home slate on Friday night at 8 p.m. ET on Citizens Bank Field at Finley Stadium.
