Women’s Volleyball drops 3-0 contest to top-ranked Lindsey Wilson in MSC Championship

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Making its first appearance in the championship match of the Mid-South Conference Tournament since 2009, Campbellsville's women's volleyball lost to No. 1-ranked Lindsey Wilson College, 3-0, on Friday night at South Warren High School.
 
Julia Fonseca and Annija Abolina recorded a six kills apiece as the Lady Tigers (26-8) finished the match with 19 kills. Marcella Compeau notched a match-high 19 dig as the team finished with 40 total in the match.
 
Campbellsville struck first with a kill from Olivia Jarvis, but the Blue Raiders (28-0) came right back and regained the lead. The Lady Tigers played the Blue Raiders close in the first set, but a 5-1 run from Lindsey Wilson pushed the Blue Raider lead to five points. Campbellsville could not rebound from early deficit as the Lindsey Wilson won the opening set, 25-17.
 
In the first set, the Blue Raiders hit .371 in the first set, while the Lady Tigers hit just .111.
 
Campbellsville kept the second set close at the start, but Lindsey Wilson started to flex its muscle once again using a 9-1 run to flip a 4-3 deficit into a 12-5 lead. The Blue Raiders found their groove and continued to pull away from the the Lady Tigers en route to a 25-14 second set victory.
 
Lindsey Wilson opened the final set on a 12-1 run forcing Campbellsville to call both of its timeouts in that stretch. The Lady Tigers strung to together a short 5-2 run to make the score 18-7 in favor of the the Blue Raiders.
 
Campbellsville could not sustain a long run as Lindsey Wilson won the final set 25-12 to complete the sweep and win its third-straight MSC Tournament crown.
 
The Lady Tigers finished the match with a -.047 attacking percentage, compared to a .259 mark from Lindsey Wilson.
 
With the victory, the Blue Raiders earn the conference's automatic bid into the national tournament. Lindsey Wilson has now won all 28 matches of its season – dropping just one set – and it has won 77-straight sets.
 
Campbellsville now awaits to see if it will garner an at-large berth into the NAIA National Championship. Tournament qualifiers and opening round matches are set to be announced on Monday, Nov. 13.
