CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — Campbellsville scored 28 unanswered points in the second half and used key stops throughout to seal its second NCCAA Victory Bowl Championship in program history, 41-28 over Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU).
 
Campbellsville (8-2) put up 525 total yards of offense and held SAGU's high-powered rushing attack in check with only 110 yards on the ground. The eight wins is the sixth in program history and second the last three seasons.
 
Quarterback Hunter Brown finished his career with 288 passing yards and two touchdowns on 17-of-33. A big offensive day for Zerric Willis earned him the NCCAA Offensive Most Outstanding Player honors. He made six catches for a career-high 163 yards and one touchdown – which was on the first drive of the game.

Chantz Goodman and Wade Holtsclaw led the way for the rushing attack with 86 and 70 yards, respectively. Holtsclaw compiled two touchdowns pushing his total to 14 on the season. In addition, slot receiver Kendon Young rushed for 75 yards and one touchdown.

On the defensive side, it was Garland Webb earning Defensive Most Outstanding Player honors with 12 tackles, four solo, one sack, 1.5 tackles for loss and two pass breakups.
 
Darius Moore and Khalil Baker also put up double digit tackle marks with 12 and 11, respectively.
 
To start the game, Brown hit Willis for a 64-yard touchdown down the home sideline to put CU ahead, 6-0.
 
SAGU (8-3) answered right back with an eight-play 64-yard drive as JP Lowery picked up half his yardage total on one play rushing in from 34 yards out. The PAT was good and the Lions gained their first lead, 7-6, with just five-plus minutes off the clock.
 
The scoring slowed the rest of the opening quarter but both teams traded touchdowns to start the second frame. Brown hit Kendon Young for a 19-yard TD with 14:04 left. Bates' PAT was good and CU regained the lead, 13-7.
 
Then it was the Lions answering right back again. CJ Collins found Jeremy Carr streaking down the sideline for 77 yards and SAGU went back ahead for the rest of the first half.
 
The Lions ended up scoring 14-straight points with another long touchdown pass. Collins found Bryant Dotson for a 35-yarder to cap the scoring for SAGU in the opening half.
 
Overall on the day, SAGU was 1-of-2 in the red zone and were unable to capitalize with great field possession all day.
 
Campbellsville then cut the SAGU lead to two points, 21-19, just before halftime. The Tigers used an end-around and Kendon Young broke a few tackles to complete the 20-yard touchdown – his second of the day.
 
But then it was the defense that made the difference the rest of the day. With the Lions driving late in the first half, Campbellsville's D held up in the final minute to stop SAGU from extending its lead and gave the Tigers all the momentum.
 
Campbellsville and SAGU combined for four turnovers on the day but it was Campbellsville taking advantage to start the third quarter. BJ Pelt tipped Collins' pass and Deandre Hollis was there for his first-career interception. CU scored two plays later with senior Wade Holtsclaw rushing in from 3-yards out and giving the Tigers a 25-21 lead – an advantage they would not surrender.
 
Just a few minutes later, Holtsclaw finished his career at CU with a 17-yard rushing touchdown and put CU ahead, 32-21.

In the fourth quarter, it was Bates nailing a 29-yard field goal putting CU ahead, 35-21, and just two minutes later, the Tigers stop SAGU on fourth down deep into their own territory to seal the game.

CU scored two plays and 25 seconds later – a Hunter Brown 1-yard rush up the middle.
 
The Lions did score to stop the bleeding with 3:26 left but it was too little too late.
