CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The Campbellsville men's basketball team hosts Freed-Hardeman University on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. ET to continue its seven-game homestand at Powell Athletic Center.
The Tigers enter the contest on Tuesday night with a record of 4-1. Campbellsville lost its last game to Indiana University-Southeast, 85-80, to snap the Tigers four-game winning streak to start the season.
In the game against the Grenadiers, Campbellsville fell behind by 18 points with under six minutes to play and pulled the game within five points. The Tigers rally came up short as they suffered their first lost of the season. Andrew Smith had a career game for Campbellsville with 22 points in the game, while Tim Coleman chipped in with 21 points – all coming off three pointers.
Hagen Tyler has paced the Tigers this season with 15.8 points per game. Tyler is one of five Campbellsville players to average double figures this season. Smith is second on the team with 13.2 points per contest and Coleman has averaged 12.8 points a game.
Shawn Johnson leads the team with 37 rebounds, while chipping in with 11.2 points per game and Deion Evans has 22 points in his first two appearances of the season.
Along with leading the team in scoring, Tyler is 26 points away from hitting 1,000 career points in a Campbellsville uniform. Over his two-plus seasons with the Tigers he has scored 974 points and averaged 13.9 points per game in his first 70 games for Campbellsville.
Freed-Hardeman comes into the matchup with a record of 1-2 overall and is 1-1 in the American Midwest Conference. The Lions started the season at 0-2, but picked up a 94-86 victory over Lindenwood University-Belleville on the road. After playing its first game at home, Freed-Hardeman is currently in the middle of a six-game road stretch. Marcus Baldwin leads the Lions this season in points per game (20.0), rebounds per game (8.0) and steals (5).
As a team, Freed-Hardeman ranks fifth in the NAIA with 35 defensive rebounds per game and is 12th in the nation with 45 rebounds a game.
The Lions lead the all-time series against Campbellsville, winning five of the eight meetings. However, the Tigers have won the last two matchups. The last time the two teams met up was during the 2012-13 season when Campbellsville beat Freed-Hardeman, 65-49, at the Lindsey Wilson College Classic.
