NCCAA National Championship begins on Thursday for Women’s Volleyball

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The Campbellsville women's volleyball team is back in postseason action on Thursday afternoon as its begins its run in the NCCAA National Championship in Kissimmee, Florida.
 
The Lady Tigers are the second seed in the national tournament and the top-seed in Pool B. Campbellsville starts competition on Thursday at noon ET against 10th-seeded Oakland City University and then faces sixth-seeded Southern Wesleyan University at 6 p.m. ET. On Friday, the Lady Tigers take on seven-seeded Life Pacific College at 10 a.m. ET, followed by a 4 p.m. ET first serve against Southwestern Assemblies of God University.
 
Campbellsville comes into the national tournament with a record of 26-9 overall and dropped its last two matches. The Lady Tigers suffered a 3-2 loss to Texas Wesleyan University in the opening round of the NAIA National Championship last week.
 
Annija Abolina leads Campbellsville with 364 kills, while Maria Coelho has chipped in with 318 kills for the Lady Tigers. Julia Fonseca – who leads the team with 81 blocks – is knocking on the door of the 300-kill mark with 291 heading into the national championship.
 
Marcella Compeau leads the team with 570 digs, while Katie Johnson has notched 322 digs for the Lady Tigers. Kate Harris paces Campbellsville with 7.67 assists per set and has 506 assists in 66 sets played this season.
 
Oakland City comes into the tournament with a record of 16-10 overall and earned a spot in the national championship after winning the Mideast Regional. Kaebra LaGrange has paced the Mighty Oaks with 241 kills and 70 blocks, while her 185 digs are third on the team.
 
Southern Wesleyan holds a record of 18-13 overall and edged Emmanuel College in the final of the South Regional to earn its bid into the national championship. Paige O'Connor has racked up 469 kills in 121 sets this season, while Olivia Johnson posted 339 kills for the Warriors. Katie Anderson leads the back row for Southern Wesleyan with 558 digs.
 
Life Pacific is currently 23-10 on the year and picked up an at-large berth in the championship following a three-set loss to Biola University in the championship of the West Regional. In the last match for Life Pacific, it only hit .167 overall with Jasmine Broad recording a team-best 11 kills to go along with 14 digs from Sydney Culpepper.
 
SAGU is 27-7 on the season, but suffered a 3-1 set back against McMurray University in the final of the Central Regional. The Lions – who earned an at-large selection into the championship field – have three players with over 300 kills led by Jessica Sodich with 492 kills and she is second on the team with 520 digs. Sophia Ivy has notched the eighth-most assists in the NAIA with 1,397 in her 131 sets played this season.
 
At the NCCAA National Championship last season, Lady Tigers went 3-2 overall and finished as the national runner-up.
 
Pool play at the national championship takes place on Thursday and Friday, followed by the semifinals and final on Saturday. All matches are set to take place at the Kissimmee Civic Center in Kissimmee, Fla.
 
Prior to competition at the national championship, all 10 teams will take part in the Christian Service Project that will assist the Campus Crusade of Christ's Orlando inner city work.
 
Campbellsville starts the national championship on Thursday at noon ET against Oakland City.
