Men’s Basketball pushes winning streak to five games following 99-75 victory over Voorhees

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Campbellsville's men's basketball team picked up its fifth-straight victory on Friday with a 99-75 win over Voorhees College inside the Powell Athletic Center. The five-game winning streak is the longest winning streak in the Brent Vernon era.

Tim Coleman matched his career-high with 21 points and he tallied five assists for Campbellsville (9-1), while Hagen Tyler recorded his first career double-double with 20 points and a career-high 10 rebounds. Prior to the game, Tyler was honored with a commemorative ball for recording his 1,000th career point at Campbellsville last week against Central Pennsylvania College.

Andrew Smith recorded his second double-double this year with 12 points and 12 boards. The entire Campbellsville starting five finished in double figures with Jalen Coates notching 15 points and seven assists, to go along with Shawn Johnson's 13 points.

After Voorhees (8-3) scored the first basket of the game, Campbellsville countered with 10-straight points and they would stretch their lead to as many as nine points two possessions later. However, Voorhees battled back and took it largest lead of the contest with 8:48 to play in the first half as it went ahead, 22-18.

Campbellsville and Voorhees traded points to close out the second half. Over the first 20 minutes, the score was tied 10 times and it changed sides 10 different times. Tyler was able to give Campbellsville a 38-36 lead at the half following a two-point basket with 34 seconds left in the half.

The two sides played event throughout the first half as Campbellsville held a slight edge in rebounds, 21-20, while shooting 41.7 percent from the floor. Voorhees shot 37.1 percent, but made 5-of-11 three-pointers.

To start the second half, Campbellsville stretched its lead to seven points and a three by Johnson gave Campbellsville its first double-digit lead of the night at 55-45. Voorhees cut its deficit to nine points on the next possession, but that is as close as it came in the second half as Campbellsville led by at least 10 points the rest of the way.

Campbellsville slowly stretched out its lead and went ahead by 20 points for the first time with 9:36 left in regulation. The largest lead Campbellsville took was just before the final media timeout with 5:53 left in game after Coates connected a three-pointer to put Campbellsville on top, 84-59.

Seven-straight points from Voorhees pull it back within 18 points with 3:25 left, but Campbellsville did not let Voorhees get any closer as Campbellsville closed out the game and picked up a 99-75 victory.

In the second half alone, Campbellsville outrebounded Voorhees, 32-19, and held a 53-39 advantage on the glass.

Campbellsville tallied 61 points in the second half, which tied its season best for points in the second half after it scored 61 points against Brescia University last weekend. Campbellsville finished one-point shy of recording its fourth-straight game with at least 100 points.

Campbellsville also tied its season high in blocks with seven, which it did against Bethel University and Central Pennsylvania, while also picking up 21 assists and recording 20 assists in four-straight games.

With Campbellsville's seven-game homestand wrapped up, it now travels to Pippas Passes, Ky., to take on Alice Lloyd College at 7 p.m. ET on Tuesday night. Tuesday's game will be the first true road game for Campbellsville this season.
