CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Campbellsville's men's basketball team continues its stretch of six-straight games away from home as the 21st-ranked Tigers travel down Highway 55 to take part in the Lindsey Wilson College Classic on Friday and Saturday.
Campbellsville takes on Taylor University at 7 p.m. ET on Friday night to start the classic, while the Tigers then faceoff against Toccoa Falls College at 3 p.m. ET on Saturday afternoon.
Entering the classic, Campbellsville is currently on a seven-game winning streak and sits at 11-1 on the season after picking up a win at Freed-Hardeman University last Thursday, 84-76. Against the Lions,
Andrew Smith posted a career game with 27 points and just missed a double-double with eight rebounds. Smith also chipped in with three blocks, three assists and two steals.
On Monday, Smith was announced as the Mid-South Conference Player of the Week after averaging a double-double in two road games last week. He averaged 18 points and 10 rebounds, while shooting 77.8 percent from the floor and 83.3 percent from beyond the arc. Smith also ranks eighth in the NAIA with 21 blocks and 16th with 96 rebounds.
Leading the Tigers this season in scoring is
Hagen Tyler who has averaged 15.7 points per game, to go along with Smith and
Tim Coleman averaging 13.7 points a contest through the first 12 games of the season.
Shawn Johnson is the final player for Campbellsville to average double figures with 10.8 points a game. Smith is the leading rebounder on the team after notching eight rebounds per game.
As a team, the Tigers ranks third in the NAIA with an assist-to-turnover ratio of 1.8, while ranking fourth with 133 made three-pointers.
Taylor comes into the weekend with an overall mark of 9-3 and it defeated Great Lakes Christian College, 97-84, in the Trojans' famed Silent Night Game last Friday. Taylor has gone 2-3 over its last five games, while sitting at 1-3 in the Crossroads League. Ryan Robinson leads the team with 17.3 points per game coming off the bench in all 12 games this season. Jake Heggeland is the team's leading rebounder with 6.6 per game and he is one of four players for the Trojans to average double figures this season with 14.5 points a game.
Toccoa Falls is currently 0-8 on the year after suffering a 101-42 loss to Truett-McConnell University on Tuesday night. The Screaming Eagles – who faced NCAA Division I Presbyterian College on Thursday night in an exhibition game – are set to run through a stretch of four-straight exhibition contests against Mid-South Conference teams. All four games are slated to be regular season games for the MSC teams. In the first eight games of the season for Toccoa Falls, it has been outscored by an average of 36.3 points per game.
Friday is set to be the third meeting all-time between Campbellsville and Taylor. The Tigers and Trojans have split the previous two meetings with each team winning on their home courts. The last meeting between the two programs came on Nov. 29, 2008 with Campbellsville winning at home, 66-64.
The Tigers face Toccoa Falls for the first time in program history on Saturday afternoon.
Opening tip on Friday night between Taylor and Campbellsville is set for 7 p.m. ET, while the Tigers face the Screaming Eagles at 3 p.m. ET on Saturday afternoon from the Biggers Sports Center in Columbia, Ky.
