BLOOMINGTON SPRINGS, Tenn.. — Head Coach
Shannon Wathen has hit the recruiting trail very hard lately and has signed eight future Lady Tigers starting in 2018-19. The eighth signee announced this week is Riley Hurst.
Hurst, from Bloomington Springs, Tenn., plays for Upperman High School and is another dominant offensive player Coach Wathen is looking for.
Through her junior season, Hurst has a career .482 batting average, .588 on-base-percentage and 19 home runs.
In 2015, Hurst was named the District 8 AA Freshman of the Year and by the time she became a junior was named the Player of the Year in 2017. In addition, she was selected to the District 8 AA All-District Team the past three seasons and earned 2017 Tennessee Softball Coaches' Association All-State.
Outside of softball, Hurst also plays basketball for Upperman High. She was named to the All-District 8 AA Freshman Team in 2015, Third Team All-District in 2017 and Regional All-Tournament team last year as well.
In 2017, Hurst set the record for most consecutive 3-pointers made a in a game with seven – which tied the Tennessee state record.
She helped lead Upperman to a state runner-up finish in 2016 and eventually won the state title last year.
In the classroom, Hurts is a member of the Beta Club, Mu Alpha Theta and was just recently the Rotary Student of the Month in November. She plans to major in nursing at Campbellsville.
In addition to Hurst, Coach Wathen also signed Corbin's Halia Stidham, Madisonville North Hopkins' Alexa Miller, Tennessee native Anna Wantz, Apollo's Payton Blades, Green County teammates Hannah Judd and Ivy Hedgespeth, Holy Cross's Dakota Young, as the four signees officially announced by CU softball.
