Box Score PORTSMOUTH, Ohio. — In a frenetic game that saw multiple first-half lead changes, No. 5 Shawnee State used an early 10-3 third quarter run to pull away and defeat No. 9 Campbellsville tonight in the Frank and Janis Waller Gymnasium, 92-73.
Campbellsville (23-5, 8-4 MSC) trailed by as many as nine (45-36) in the first half when Ashton Lovely drained a 3. But the Lady Tigers fought back, eventually closing it to three (47-44) when
Emily Fox returned the favor from behind the arc.
But even though CU held an eight-turnover advantage in the first half, the Bears made up for it with uncanny accuracy from behind the arc. Shawnee State hit 80 percent from 3 (8-10) in the first half and ended the game with 10 made 3s on 16 attempts.
CU led a couple times in the first quarter, leaning heavily on
Madison Stewart's nine early points, but trailed 27-23 at the end of the first 10 minutes of play. Stewart's and-one with six minutes to go in the half gave Campbellsville a 34-33 lead.
But that's the last time the Lady Tigers would head Shawnee (26-2, 11-1 MSC).
Madison Ridout and Bailey Cummins led Shawnee with 18 and 17 points, respectively. The pair combined for five 3-pointers on perfect 5-for-5 3-point shooting.
While Ridout and Cummins were unconscious from the outside, Poe was a big thorn in CU's size inside. She hit six of her nine shots and scored 15 points and a game-high nine rebounds for the Bears who held a 43-24 advantage on the glass.
Fox and Stewart each had 15 points for Campbellsville.
Jordan Doram and
Madison Clements had 12 points each. Doram and Stewart had six and five rebounds apiece, respectively.
Shawnee State shot the ball at 62 percent for the game - a new season-high - to Campbellsville's 37 percent.
