Losses even season mark at 2-2 for Lady Tiger Softball

HARDEEVILLE, S.C. — Campbellsville's record slipped to .500 after two losses on Day 2 of the NAIA Southern Challenge hosted by the University of South Carolina-Beaufort.

The Lady Tigers (2-2) saw Thomas University score the winning run off an error in the top of the sixth and then watched a 2-0 first-inning lead evaporate in their game against University of South Carolina-Beaufort in a 9-2 loss.

GAME 1 –Thomas 2, Campbellsville 1

Neely Quint (1-1) pitched good enough to win most games. She lost a three-hitter, allowing just one earned run and striking out four.

Campbellsville scratched a run in the bottom of the second when Tori Humphrey's double scored Mia Aldridge.

Thomas knotted it in the fourth when Alaynah Weiss tripled home a run. Then in the sixth, CU committed a throwing error, one of three errors in the game that allowed Gaby Mora to score her second run of the game.

The Lady Tigers outhit Thomas 8-3, but could not get a timely hit when it mattered. Jacqueline Roof, Mudd, Rebecca Miller, Hailey Szpila, Humphrey, and Alexis Smith all had one hit each. Aldridge went 2-for-3 and scored the only run.

GAME 2 – USC-Beaufort 9, Campbellsville 2

CU scored twice in the top of the first when Madison Mudd's single scored Jacqueline Roof and Alexis Smith's sacrifice scored Mudd.

But after that Campbellsville managed only three more hits and USCB put up big numbers up in the first and sixth innings.

The Sand Sharks scored three times in the bottom of the first when Campbellsville starter Morgan Gailor (1-1) gave up three hits, two wild pitches and a walk. Gailor cooled down and pitched three-hit ball the next three innings.

Rachel Denkins came on in relief in the bottom of the fifth and allowed a two-out run-scoring triple to Emma Erwin. The floodgates really opened in the sixth when Denkins was touched up for four runs.

Jacqueline Roof was a bright spot at the plate for CU. She went 3-for-4 and scored one of the two runs. Mudd and Gailor owned the other two hits.

USCB's Abby Pack allowed only three hits after the first inning and struck out five.

The Lady Tigers return to action in the NAIA Southern Challenge Saturday, Feb. 18 when they meet William Carey University at 10 a.m. followed by a matchup with Faulkner at 12:30.
