Season-high hitting percentage of .432 leads Tigers to second sweep of Bluefield

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Tiger volleyball sported its highest hitting percentage of .432 tonight to sweep Bluefield College for the second time this season.
 
Bryce Johnson led the Tigers with 16 kills and a season-high hitting percentage of .636. Adam Conklin followed closely with a total of nine kills and a hitting percentage of .444.
 
The Tigers mirrored their previous sweep of the Rams with nine service aces to Bluefield's one.
 
Adam Conklin and Johnson kick-started the first set with two consecutive kills for Campbellsville (6-9). Despite giving up nine points to the Rams via errors, the Tigers gradually extended the lead with a total of four service aces. Campbellsville took a 12-2 run over Bluefield to seal the deal, winning the first set 25-12.
 
A pair of service aces by Noel Camello helped the Tigers sprint to a 12-2 lead from the get-go in the second set. Campbellsville continued to hold off the Rams with kills from Johnson, Conklin and Max Strotridge and a hitting percentage of .524 to win Set 2, 25-11.
 
Bluefield (0-7) didn't let the Tigers get away so easily in the third set. Campbellsville split the beginning of the set with the Rams until, with the score knotted at six, the Tigers broke away on a 9-3 run to bring the score to 15-9. Bluefield attempted a comeback with five points to the Tigers' one, but couldn't catch up, allowing the Tigers to win the third set, 25-19, and the match, 3-0.
 
Campbellsville's .432 hitting percentage trumped Bluefield's .048, with 41 kills to the Rams' 16.
 
In his first match of the season with the Tigers, Philip Turia collected 30 assists and four kills with a 1.00 hitting percentage.
 
Leading the defense for the Tigers, Camello scooped up 10 digs, while Johnson and Rafael Cruz had five apiece. Campbellsville had 30 digs compared to Bluefield's 22.
 
The Tigers will hit the road on Tuesday, Feb. 21 to Harrogate, Tenn. where they will face Lincoln Memorial University at 7 p.m.
